Music Makes Me Move

This morning while at a local stationery store I was waiting in line to pay for my two red pens and 2 orange Heritage Notebooks (you know the one’s you used in elementary school for homework or spelling).

The lady in front of me was waiting on some information, therefore I was waiting to pay (which was fine by me, I wasn’t in a hurry). Next thing I know “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas came on their radio and she (the lady in front of me) started bouncing her leg to the beat. Which then led me to bob my head a little to the beat and I thought “music makes me move”. So if music makes me move why don’t I listen to music all the time.

Then I reflected….

At our house, we leave a radio on for our dog when we are gone – I guess to keep her company even though she sleeps relaxes most of the day. I usually have the radio on or a cd (children’s music for Lilly) in the car when we drive anywhere. But at the office, our very small office, we don’t have any music on – well my boss does but that’s in his office and I can’t really hear it. From past work experiences I am much more productive with music in the background and it makes me move. Maybe I should invest in some good headphones so I don’t disrupt the others in our office – but then I would feel like I am shutting them out, not really what I want to do. I’ll have to think about this one.

Then there is our daughter, Lilly.

A few months ago we discovered our daughter really liked to dance but only to certain songs. Randomly one day The Tragically Hip came on the radio and she started rocking out – it was great and her Uncle Paul would have been so proud of her. Another day it was “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People – she danced the whole song.

Some of Lilly’s current favourites:

  • Pumped Up Kicks (Foster The People) (actually THIS is her favourite – after looking through videos of her it seems to be THE song she’s rockin out to the most)
  • Party Rock Anthem (LMFAO)
  • Moves Like Jagger (Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera)
  • Sexy and I Know It (LMFAO)

It doesn’t matter what she is doing but if one of these songs comes on the radio, she’ll start dancing. Good thing we now have some of these cd’s to play when we want to dance.

Maybe a little Pumped Up Kicks is in order….I’m off to dance with my girl.

Does music make you move? Do your toddlers break out dancing when their favourite song comes on?
