Singing Toddler

Lately, Lilly and I have been singing songs at random times throughout the day. Sometimes  I use this to distract her from being upset, crying in the car or while changing her nappy. She always laughs, claps her hands and says “yah” after each song.

A few weeks ago, my sister daughter her “head, shoulders, knees and toes”. Well she thought that was the funniest song. Laughs out loud so hard I think she’s going to fall over.

Last night, we were playing with some blocks which happen to have the alphabet on them. I decided to put them in order and sing the alphabet. Well, Lilly started singing too: HIJ …. RST! I was quite surprised at this but then remembered they are learning letters at the sitters.

I’ve been singing “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star” and every so often she’ll get in a word or to.

This morning while getting ready for work, she was singing something and I finally figured it out. She was singing “twinkle twinkle…”, she knew the song! There were only a few key words I recognized but she was making an attempt to sing a song. It was really cute.

It’s so amazing to see how much they learn in such a small amount of time.

Do you sing to your children (nieces or nephews) ?

Do they “sing” back?

  1. It is adorable to hear their little voices singing. Now, keep that radio tuned to toddler tunes and you’ll be safe. I’ve heard toddlers singing some crazy radio songs that are totally inappropriate but a little funny.
Love your blog look lately. See you changed it up a bit. Nice!
And btw, I had to dig your comments out of spam so I apologize for not acknowledging them. I truly appreciate your views and comments. Thanks for being an avid reader.

  2. Cute blog Anna.

Lilly and I belted out every song I could think of. Even taught her the “Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum’ ditty our grandmother taught me…LOL. She loves “I’m Elmo and I know it” and ‘1234’ by Fiest on Seasame street too.

The best thing she still loves her Aunite Laura no matter how badly I sing 🙂

  3. On another cute note, I remember a few years ago when one of my friend’s kids was singing a tune. He was only 3 or 4 at the time. We eventually figured out he was singing “My lumps, my lumps, my lovely lady lumps” by the Black Eyed Peas. They really do pick up more than we know. 🙂

  4. Oh yes my two year old sings a ton. We have a bunch of songs on loop that he’s pretty much memorized lol. Sometimes when he’s supposed to be napping but isn’t, he’ll sing the whole time, and the most obscure songs too that I never even knew he knew the words too!

    • They are so interesting eh! The last few days she’s been “singing” and it takes us a little while to figure out that’s what she’s doing but we eventually hear the song she is singing and sing along too.

  5. There is nothing sweeter than singing with your little ones. I love that you and your daughter share the joy of music together. I sing with Harper all the time and the day she finished my verse was the day my heart melted. Continue to make music with her. There is no greater gift!
