So Canadians with Bell phones and those who tweet …. Let’s talk about mental illness. It happens to more people than we know it.  Depression, anxiety, panic attacks ….. I feel like I  don’t know anyone who hasn’t experienced one of the above.

I have had a few panic attacks/anxiety before and yeah it sucked. It just takes over your body. But because I am a fairly active person, I have used running or working out in the past as a means of letting go of any anxiety or stress I may have at the time. And I believe you need to talk to someone about your stress, depression, anxiety, ADD, eating disorders etc., as it’s one of the best things your can do for yourself. Friends, family, working professionals are there to listen and help. They sure aren’t there to judge you or make you there worse, they are there to listen and help you.

So I write this because I want spread the word and get people talking more. AND I want help Bell donated money towards mental illness….so text and tweet #BellLetsTalk today.

Indoor Walking Isn’t Just For Mall Crawlers

Ever go to a mall on a weekday and see people walking before the stores open? I sure have…and GOOD for them. Walking indoors is a great way to be active, especially when the weather is too cold….or to hot! I never walked at the mall before the stores opened as I like being outside in any weather. Well, maybe not on an extremely hot summer day.

When I was on maternity leave with Lilly two years ago, our little baby group would go walking at an indoor track not far from where we all lived. It was great. Our strollers fit side by side, it was warm, we had a place to sit and nurse the babies if needed and washroom’s available. It was free, unless you wanted to give a donation in their drop box – it took me almost 2 months of walking to notice their donation box – whoops! This indoor walking track is actually at a hockey arena and located at the top so you can look down and watch people skating or playing hockey.

On Tuesday, before I knew I was going to be violently ill, Hilary and I went to the track. I was planning on walking for an hour but only managed 40 minutes. 40 minutes was enough as I was about to lose my marbles (stomach content) later in the afternoon. We arrived just before lunch time and had the place to ourselves. When 12 o’clock hit, skaters came out of nowhere, there was about 20 people of all ages skating. Note to self – buy skates/helmet for Lilly ASAP.

It was a perfect day to be inside walking as it was -13 C outside with a windchill of -23 C. Brrrrrrrrrr. This is one of my plans to get moving a little more this winter until the weather get’s better and we can be outside more.

Life can pass by or slow down completely

The weeks seem to to be flying by…..Hilary is already 2months old!  week after week I plan blog posts and sometimes draft them but can’t seem to find the time time to finish them. Make them just oh so right!

Well, on Tuesday after going for a walk on at an indoor track I came home and started to spiral down hill. My legs hurt, my head was pounding…. I thought it was maybe because I hadn’t been working out and not drinking enough water.

Nope, not the case. Mama was sick!

It took everything in me to get through my afternoon with Hilary, pick up Lilly, make dinner, do our night time routine before my husband got home! I was getting worse by the minute. Nothing was staying in my body, my bones AND muscles hurt, my head was pounding…..time was passing by SO slowly I just wanted to cry.

And, I did.

I managed to get Lilly to bed, nurse Hilary and Sai got home and took over. Off to bed I went except to nurse Hilary when needed. I don’t remember being that sick before and being lactose intolerant….well let’s just say you can get used to getting sick. I did managed to loose between 2-5 pounds….I can’t really see the exact number on my scale but it’s gone down. I wouldn’t ever recommend being sick to loose weight….it just sucks the life out of you.

By the next day I was getting back to normal and today I managed to eat normal again.

So, I haven’t blogged but have many ready to go, and will hopefully get back to it soon.

For now I am cuddling with Hilary, trying to type this on an iPad and not enjoying the experience of doing so. I’ve made so many typing mistakes, but hopefully you won’t notice if I proof read right.

Some exciting news…….Nova Scotia is getting hit by a BIG storm this weekend!!!! Just google it and you’ll see. 40+ cm of snow to hit us! Saaaweat!

My 12 in 2012 Review

When I started blogging over a year ago I decided to attempt 12 “things” in 2012. Seeing that it’s now 2013 I thought I would update you on my list of the 12 things I attempted in 2012.

A random list of 12 things I want to do in 2012.

  1. Write one blog per week……52 in total. Managed 229 posts in total.
  2. Read a non-child/parenting or non-physical activity book for fun: Where We Belong – Emily Giffin in August.
  3. Hike Cape Split with Toddler (and husband, of course) – not in 2012 as baby #2 is arrived in December.
  4. Cook ALL Vegan meals for 1 week (my husband is a vegan but I am not). Nope – didn’t happen. We had many vegan meals but not 3 per day for a full week  – maybe this year?!?!? Some of my favourite vegan meals this year: butternut squash soup, vegan pesto linguine, and pizza rolls.
  5. Go to a movie by myself. March 3rd – The Vow – good movie! I thought it would be kinda cheesy to go to a movie by myself but it was actually okay. I went in the afternoon, got lost in the movie and then had the rest of the evening to myself.
  6. Get 8 full hours of sleep (in a row) Amazing, Lilly slept all night, therefore I slept all night Jan 3rd 2012.
  7. Take advantage of my medical plan and get a massage. Friday February 10th – it was so great. I also went for 3 prenatal massages in the summer and fall – Ah-maz-ing!
  8. Invest in new runners (notice I did not say “buy”). May 19th 2012 – Asics purchased :)
  9. Start practicing Yoga (again). February 9th attending Yoga Flow. Yoga once a week at home (DVD).
  10. Weekend Camping Trip with family (toddler, husband and dog). Did not happen while pregnant. On the lis for this year.
  11. Run a 10k in 60 minutes or less (not necessarily in a race). Not in 2012 but I am committed to this for 2013.
  12. Promote Blog on various sites. You can see on my Media Page where I’ve guest blogged, had interviews, a few awards from fellow bloggers. Also, I’m a Sweat Pink Ambassador :)
Extra day in 2012, bonus goal: Write down weekly physical activity plan and stick to it.
Every week I wrote when I would work out and what I would do!
