I really didn’t want to workout tonight #sweatpink #happymama

Tonight I really didn’t want to workout. So much so, that I did everything else I could around the house to *almost* avoid working out since it was getting so late.

I tried to put Hilary down for the night…. 50 minutes later she was singing in her bed and that lead to crying in her bed. My husband went in and managed to get her asleep – after another 40 minutes of crying in his arms. (Hilary – you can get over this not-wanna-be-in-anyone-else’s-arms-but-mom’s phase any day now). During that time I thought about working out while I did the following:

  • dishes from dinner
  • dishes from baking earlier today
  • cleaned up Lilly’s toys
  • Facebook – three times
  • Email – two different email accounts
  • Drank some Soy chocolate milk (not a good idea before you workout)

When my husband emerged from Hilary’s bedroom I said I might go workout. I actually said might twice to him. So I went to our bedroom, got my workout gear on and dreaded the walk downstairs to workout.

I really didn’t want to work out.

I sat in front of the TV and decided not to do the 30 Day Shred but start the “Ripped in 30” DVD by Jillian Michael’s which I’ve only ever done the first level.

Again, I was dreading this workout.

It started and I got warmed up.

I somehow found myself loving this workout …. that I was dreading only a few minutes prior.

It was hard, it was a challenge….it was JUST what I needed.

A good kick in the ass.

And now I feel great.

Operation “Get Fit … Lose Pounds” is now in effect. Yesterday I ran for 20 minutes with Hilary and then raked our front lawn for 40 minutes.  I was a little sore today.

I’ll be blogging more about “Get Fit…Lose Pounds” soon.

It’s 10:10 PM …. I must go shower and hopefully have a good night’s sleep *fingers crossed*.

Does working out get you motivated to keep going?

First Hair Cut!

We had a big day last Friday! Lilly, who will be three in June had her first hair cut! Everyone thought I would be upset but I have to admit I was quite excited for her. We talked about it all week and explained that she’d sit in a big chair and wear a cape! She was sold.

Before hair cut ... must have my wellies out from underneath the cape.

And then…….

So much fun!

Do you remember your child’s first hair cut?

Did you cry / get upset ?

Did you save their hair ?

So…I worked out the other day…

And now I hurt! ha!

I’ve been doing my best to be active again, even got back into running AND now running with a jogging stroller. Sweet!

Monday I had planned on taking baby H out for a run in her new stroller but I just didn’t have that oomph – kinda lazy but not really. So we laced up anyway and off we went. We walked for 15 minutes and I noticed she was quiet and had fallen asleep, so I did another lap to make it a good 30 minute power walk. We stopped to take our moment of silence for Boston and then kept on going. Even though we didn’t run I still felt like I had a good workout.

No pain no gain

Que in Tuesday morning….

After nursing Hilary and getting her down for a nap I decided I needed to do a good, intense workout. So, I went back to my old faithful Jillian Micheal’s 30 Day Shred DVD and turned on Level 2. I’m really bored with Level 1 the last little while so I figured it was time to move on. It was a great workout – just what I needed.

However, Hilary decided that nap time was over half way through my workout – Daddy to the rescue … until she saw me. Then all hell broke loose! I grabbed a quick shower and then nursed her again. Everyone was happy.

All day long I would climb up and down our stairs; with and without Hilary in my arms (all 14 pounds of her) and I felt like I was as light as a feather. My legs were strong and everything seemed easy. Ever get that awesome feeling after you workout, it’s like you’ve just accomplish something great and your body is reacting to it. Yeah, that’s how I felt. Really great.

Happy Anna after working out

Que in Wednesday morning after a night of “Operation – sleep in your own crib/bedroom” failed with Hilary (very little sleep).

My arms hurt.

My legs hurt.

My ass hurt.

My abs hurt.

My back hurt.

Ahhhhhh…. All signs of a great workout.

AND, I will do it over and over and over again.

Wednesday was my rest day, a.k.a. 2nd recovery day – oh dear!

Do you love or hate that feeling, 24 hours after you work out?

What I Ate Wednesday

It’s been such a long time since I’ve done a What I Ate Wednesday post that I thought it was time to share what we have been eating. Jenn over at Peas and Crayons is the mastermind behind “What I Ate Wednesday”.

We try to make only one meal … for my vegan husband, my kinda picky toddler and me – nursing mama who eats meat. Sometimes it can be a challenge but at the same time it’s nice to know we are eating pretty much healthy meals. And there are some days when I am lucky enough to make a meal that me and Lilly will eat and my poor husband has to figure something out for himself. You know the British can make up some pretty crazy strange meals 😉

This is what I have been eating – not solely on a Wednesday but randomly throughout the week.

Lots of good food!

Lots of good food!

Top left – Curried cauliflower with chickpeas (recipe coming soon)

Top right – Chicken with pesto on nann bread; massive salad with mixed greens, red pepper, snow peas, mushrooms, carrots, sunflower seeds (saltless), cran-raisins.

Middle – pretty normal and quick breakfast – Raisin Brain, Bran Buds (apparently I like Bran) and a Banana.

Bottom left – Massive sandwich for lunch one day, it was so hard to eat. Olive bread, avocado, fried egg, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese. Grapes.

Bottom right – Boring breakfast … or was this lunch??? Toast with vegan butter, two boiled eggs and a little cranberry juice.

It’s been fun making new “meals” for Lilly.

Our not so little girl.

Our not so little girl.

Left – Peanut butter and banana sushi wraps, a.k.a. “special sandwich”.

Right – Pink Lady Apple, Cheddar Cheese and Crackers – she split her snack with Mommy one day. xo

I try hard to eat healthy but there are days when all I want is bad food and you know what, I’m okay with that.  I’ve talked about my food philosophy before but since I am nursing Hilary still, I try … really hard to eat well for her. I avoid onions, cauliflower, broccoli, and garlic on occasion since they seem to give her lots of gas but I love those foods minus onions.

I would have shared a picture of what Hilary is eating these days but I’m pretty sure no one wants to see a picture of my boobs.  I can’t wait to start making baby food again! I did it with Lilly since it was so easy. Don’t worry, I’ll share my baby food tips come June/July when Hilary starts eating solids.

What have you been eating lately?

Did you avoid any foods when you were breastfeeding?

What’s your favourite food?  Lately, I’ve been loving asparagus!
