An in-home workout & Canada Day!

The other day I was putting off working out…well, I’ve been putting it off for a few days because we were traveling with both girls for the wedding. Getting both girls back on their normal routine has been a fun challenge. Maybe I am making excuses but at the end of the day all I could do was make sure the house was somewhat tidy and relax/go to bed early. I was exhausted too.

While wasting time on Facebook I came across a workout from Bess. I’ve been following her blog, Bess Be Fit for over a year and love the workout’s she posts. However, I’ve yet to try one until this was posted. I like that I can so this while the girls sleep and IN my home, which is key for me lately. Plus NO equipment is needed….just your hot bod!

Give it a go. It kicked me in the ass, but I’ll do it again and again because it’s a good one!

Happy Workout!

Tomorrow is Canada Day, woop woop! I love celebrating Canada Day with my little family. In previous years, we gone to a local community event where my husband used to work a few years ago. They have music playing (bands), a magic show, a massive slip and slide and bouncy castles which Lilly can play on this year!!! Sure hoping we can make it again!

What are your Canada Day plans?

(Or those in the US, July 4th plans?)

Another challenge: 30 Days of Cardio

Another month is ending and we get to ring in July starting with Canada Day! (At least for us Canadians).  I’ve shared Jodi Higgs 30 Day Abs Challenge and 30 Day Arms Challenge, so I thought I would share her next challenge.

30 Day Cardio Challenge.

You can follow/subscribe to follow her on Facebook here for tips and motivation.

Jodi Higgs 30 Day Cardio Challenge

Jumping Jacks, Mountain Climbers, Jump Rope and Skaters!

Please note: I did not create any of these workouts but am sharing them on this blog. Piper’s Run is about trying to balance it all and for me working out at home is how I balance my family, work and staying/getting in shape. You may want to consult a certified fitness trainer and/or Doctor before taking on a new physical activity/challenge.

Are you up for this one?

Start this on July 1st – Canada Day!

A Little Planning For A Lot of Fun {guest post}

It’s summer time which means V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!!!! Who doesn’t love  a vacation especially with your family?  Today I am hosting a guest blogger – Kendra.  She has some great tips on planning for your vacation and keeping it simple. Enjoy her great tips and happy vacationing this summer 🙂

~~~~~
Every year I look forward to our family vacation.  My goal is that everyone has a good time without sacrificing the good habits we practice at home.  There are some tricks to ensuring a good time and healthy habits.
Orlando
1. Family Friendly Hotels
I do not want to spend an afternoon dragging cranky kids around a theme park.  A good night’s sleep is key to making sure everyone has a good time.  While I am all about saving money, sometimes it is worth spending a little extra to stay at a family friendly hotel that offers quiet hours and ensures a good night’s sleep. I enjoy using Gogobot to sift through authentic reviews to find really beneficial information. I found a list of so many great reviews about Orlando hotels and resorts that have free continental breakfasts for kids and quiet hours policies at night!
2. There’s No Place Like Home
When I travel with babies and small children, I always bring their favorite blanket, pillow, or sheets.  If they have a favorite night light or book, I bring that as well.  Pack anything that is part of your established nighttime routine, so the child feels more at home.  I have found it easier to keep them on their routine if the hotel room feels like home.
3. Sweet Treats
The best way to avoid sweet cravings is to reward a child with a small sweet treat.  I always carry a small treat like pudding or cookies to fend off a sweet craving.  Usually, we celebrate “we’re halfway there” with a small sugary snack to stave off any big craving.  This is a great way to avoid the candy machine at a rest stop or airport store.  If you have to grab something fast, you should know what some of your healthiest fast choices are!
4. Keeping Those Hands Clean
Germs are everywhere.  Anytime you visit a public space and touch something like a doorknob, ATM, or that cute little Minnie Mouse purse in the gift shop, you are picking up germs.  I always carry a small container of an alcohol based sanitizer in my purse or carry on to make sure that we do not spread any of these germs to our mouth, if a bathroom to wash our hands is not readily available.  Can you guess the worst place for germs?  A bathroom on an airplane is the worst.
5. Time
I have found the best thing I can take on our family vacation is time.  My children love to explore, stop and stare, talk to other children, and use every bathroom they pass.  They do not enjoy being told they have to hurry to make a flight or be somewhere on time.  I have noticed when I factor in plenty of time; the little things do not stress me out.
As I start to plan my family’s vacation, I want everything to be perfect.  There are always unexpected things that come up, but with a little preplanning they do not seem so insurmountable.
LAST Operation “Get Fit” Week 8 Workouts 16/6/13 – 22/6/13
This is what my last week of Operation Get Fit looked like:
Sun – Rest Day
  • No major workout but I did walk around the Zoo with some cuties.
Funny, how they both look a little grumpy! We had an awesome day.
Funny, how they both look a little grumpy! We had an awesome day.
Monday – Walked 30 & Ripped in 30 Level 4
  • If you follow me on Facebook you would have seen this: Not really feeling motivated to workout tonight, good thing I have my gear on already. #noexcuses #sweatpink Off to workout.
  • And then this: Happy I pushed through that workout, the sweat is a drippin’#workinghard #feelinggreat Did you workout today?
  • Clearly working out is good for me; puts me in a better mood and I always feel great afterwards.
Tuesday – Ripped in 30 Level 4
  • Good workout but ready to be done and move onto something else.
Wednesday – Walking 40 minutes
  • Hilary and I went for a walk for 40 minutes – beautiful day to be outside.
Thursday – “Main Event” by Brad Gouthro Live Lean Workout (30 minutes)
  • Talk about an intense workout! This is what I wrote on Facebook after I finished it: Feeling like I am getting in shape; all these workouts are paying off. Done Ripped in 30. Did #liveleanmeltdown Brad Gouthro Fitness (main event) tonight. So much better than my first attempt 2 months ago. #feelinggreat #hardworkpaysoff
  • I did this workout about two months ago and was dying after the workout…actually I was dying during the workout. This time around it was a lot easier…not to be confused with it being easy because it wasn’t, but it was easier and I felt stronger and I have improved my fitness over the last eight weeks.
Friday – Nothing!
  • Lilly was home from Day Care so we had a busy day with both girls.
Saturday – Nothing!
  • Really, I should say I did nothing.  We went to a birthday party mid day…a pirate birthday party for Lilly’s best friend. Then I spent any free moment I had packing for the wedding. I had to pack for all of us, well, my husband took care of himself.
  • We also stopped our TV connection today! WHAT????? Your probably thinking, why would you do that? Well, we rarely use it and thought the $50 could be spent somewhere else…or saved. My husband and I sat outside on our deck to watch the “Super Moon” in its glory. It was so bright and we solved 95% of the worlds problems by talking for 2 hours! No wonder why I didn’t have time to work out!
Rrrrrrrrrr! Pirate Lilly!
Rrrrrrrrrr! Pirate Lilly!
Not the best week’s of workouts but I had a lot going on especially with my husband away for 10 days, I feel like I got as many workouts in as I could.
You are probably wondering (if you’ve been following my last 8 weeks) if I fit into the dress. Well…..you’ll just have to wait for the “revealing post” coming up in a few days.  Common’, a girl’s gotta keep you hanging…just this once!
