Run, Legs, Run

I try to plan out when I will go for a run each week but this week it just wasn’t on my radar….until a package arrived in the post! Lilly came running up the steps saying “Mommy, there’s a package for you…can I open it?” We sat down and opened it. I’m not going to give it away (though you can see 1/2 of what was in the package in one of the pictures below. All I will say is that it’s related to running and you’ll see a review in a few weeks 🙂

After dinner last night I told my husband I wanted to go out for a run and thought it might be fun to drop Lilly off at day care together and then I would run home. He would then drive himself and Hilary back home and hang out.

Well, I couldn’t sleep last night. I had talked to a friend who I also work with and then work stuff was running through my head. It took me hours to fall asleep. When I woke up this morning I wasn’t feeling it but instead of getting normal clothes on I got dressed in my running gear.

Me – running today

{note – don’t be jealous of my hair style or how I look after a night of little sleep}

We all had breakfast, dressed for the COLD weather (-2 degrees C but felt like -7), packed the car and I was ready to run. Or so I thought. I took Lilly into the sitter’s house and then got back in the car…a few seconds later, Sai dropped me off at a stop sign so I could walk for a bit and warm up. It was friggin’ cold out.

I had a hat on, mitts, t-shirt and sleeves, long-sleeved shirt, my running jacket and my winter running pants. As I got to the area I wanted to start, I turned on my green garmin and waited for the satellite to get my location. The wind was ripping through me and all I could think of was how am I going to run against the wind.

Beep-beep went my garmin….all ready to go.

Shortly after that it beeped again. “Behind pace”. Great…just what I wanted to see.

I was really looking forward to this run and was looking forward to running on my own for the first time in a month or more. My legs just didn’t want to go, my thighs were heavy. Funny, as I write this I’m wondering if it’s because of this thigh challenge I’m doing…dang!

Anyway, I kept running and hit my first KM – 6:10 – not bad but then it just went down hill from there…and up hill. I was surprised at how much energy I had for the long slow hill. It wasn’t my problem. My thigh’s were just not happy.

I managed to run 4k in 26 minutes which is on target for me at the moment. My run looked like this: 1km – 6:10, 2km – 6:30, 3k – 6:41 and 4k – 6:33 – total 4k @ 26:02.  I was happy with that but my thighs weren’t in it at all.

All day my body’s felt this ache and that ache not to mentioned my daughters have shared their cold with me….l.o.v.e.l.y.

Ever have one of those days when your thighs/calve muscles or other mess up your run?

Do you keep running or end it?

  1. Great job on your run! I definitely have those days where my legs feel like lead. I keep running and hope they will loosen up (usually don’t if they are that tired). And I definitely get bad runner’s hair. I have curly/wavy hair that responds to humidity (which is created by my sweaty head. lovely) so end up looking like Kramer

  2. I think every runner has bad runner’s days. i can normally tell if it’s something I can run off or if I’m better off changing course, running to the gym and finishing off with a different exercise.
