This Mother Runner’s Attempt At Running Tonight

Sometimes our days do not go as planned.

Sometimes what you want to do to most is the first thing on your list to go.

Sometimes you just need to slow down and focus on one thing at a time.

~~~~
I wanted to run tonight but things kept getting in my way….my day went like this.
{note – I’ve had a head cold for 3 days, pounding headache and just feeling ill}
8:00 Drop girls off at Day Care
8:30 Drop by an office to pick something up and arrive at my office just before 9 am {fail already}
9 – 9:40 Rush to catch up on emails I missed in the last 2 days before darting off to a full day of meetings.
10 – 12:30 Meetings
12:30 Eat lunch I have been thinking about since 11 am
1 pm – Walk on the trail with co-workers {fresh air just what I needed – head starting to get worse}
1:30 – 4 pm More meetings {contribute little as my head is pounding and I contemplate IF I should run after the girls go to bed}
4 – Talk to my friend/coach about what I should run tonight
{she’s sick with a head cold too – go figure} Leave with an easy plan.
4:10 Pick up dinner at grocery store – not pretty but at least I got a salad.
Don't judge ;)
Don’t judge 😉
4:36 Home with the girls…Don’t ask me how I remember this time but it sticks out
5 – 7pm Eat dinner, play with girls, bath girls, read them books, sing to them.
7pm Read email, blogs, do dishes, clean up dinner – wait to confirm girls are asleep! {ha ha}
7:30 Drink Pre-Workout Vega drink {review to come} with intentions of running at 8pm
7:49 Hilary (17 months old) screaming in her bed…. 😦 Dam “eye” teeth, I wish they would just come in already.
Tried to console her, sing to her, walk around with her….nothing worked.
Drugs….yup, she got Advil for the pain.
Back to her room as she settles down, rock and sing, rock and sing…..oh man, cuddling with your little baby is simple the best thing ever….I almost forgot I wanted to run tonight.
I cuddled a little longer until she decided she wanted in her crib….okay, maybe I cuddled a little longer because I know there will be a day that she won’t want to cuddle.
So, I put her to bed and wrote this blog post to ensure she was 100% asleep before I attempt running on the treadmill.
I think I might have a stomach bug – good lord, let me feel better soon…..
8:45 pm Get gear on and see what I can accomplish on the treadmill.
Better late then never!!!
Best part of my day – that unexpected cuddle 🙂
    • I wasn’t sure about getting on the treadmill but last night is the last time I can run before my race Sunday so I figured even a little 5k couldn’t hurt. It was a great run!
  1. Kudos to you! I have recently taken up running (just since the end of last year) and I think I can officially call myself a “runner” now. It’s amazing how important it has become to “fit it in,” though, I have to find time in the morning or it doesn’t happen. I am too spent at night, so I am doubly impressed that you run while sick and at night. You are amazing!
    • Good for you for taking up running, watch out it can become addictive (in a good way). I can only run at night as my girls are up at random times and I’m not a morning person. There are many, many nights that I don’t want to run but convince myself to get dressed and start and see what happens. It also helps if I have a race to train for – then I can only blame myself for not putting in the time. There are days when I am supposed to run and I just can’t do it – I listen to my body and take an unplanned rest day.
  2. What a day! (And I hear you on the eye teeth…we definitely used Advil when those were coming in.) If you got in a treadmill run after all that, you are beyond amazing. I hope you feel better and that there’s no stomach flu!
    • Oh, so lucky!!! Hilary seems to get the same four teeth but these last I-teeth are taking forever and one is cutting so I’m sure there’s aren’t far behind! I thought her first year molars were going to be bad but we didn’t even notice them !!!
  3. Wow, going for a run after a day like that is quite an accomplishment! Especially after a pounding headache… Hope you feel better soon (and Hilary too)
  4. Way to get it done after all that! I know how hard it is with little ones around. And with work too. That’s why I usually sacrifice some extra sleep by getting up as early as I need to to get my miles in. It has killed any sort of night life tho, but I’d rather run anyways.
  5. My daughter’s teeth took foooorever to come in. Ugh, I feel you! Way to still get a run in though! My runs happen in the evening too. Luckily, my kids do well with dad putting them to bed so I can get a few miles in.
