What Do You Mean It’s NOT a Rest Day?

I’ve been trying hard to follow my half marathon training plan and feel like I’ve been doing a good job so far. I’m currently on week 4 and each week leading up to now I’ve moved the days/workouts around. This week I added a few more hills and my legs are feeling it.

My co-worker, Melissa and I have worked out early in the new year but work got too busy and we stopped our lunch time workouts. Wednesday morning I asked if she wanted to go for a run later in the week and she said sure! I wanted to see  what I was supposed to run for the rest of the week.

I pulled out my phone and looked at this……..

My first thought was “aww, crap, I don’t have a rest day until Friday” and then I frowned. Melissa laughed at me and said I looked so sad.

I desperately wanted Wednesday to be a rest day but no…rest day isn’t until FRIDAY 😦 All I could think about is how am I going to run another 6k and 5k before my rest day AND THEN  after that a LONG RUN 11k on the weekend!

Holy crap, what have I done!

But apparently, I’m really happy after running hills {early this week}:

PR Anna Run

Last night’s run treadmill run….

PR Run After

The life of a Mother Runner….treadmill running after the girls are in bed, baby monitor to listen to Hilary sing, talk and cry over and over again. Lilly was out in minutes. Hilary, not so much. I put her down at 7 and waited for her to go to sleep…and waited, and waited and waited! At 8 pm after cleaning up the house, I finally went into her room and cuddled with her, sang her a few more songs. She told me I was funny… “funny, funny mommy” and then I said good night, she replied with “ove ou, night night mama”.

Rest day or run day?

Happy or unhappy after a run/workout?

Parents – how long does it take your kids to fall asleep?

  1. Sometimes I switch up my rest/run days if needed. Good ole life sure can get in the way. I feel awesome after a work out normally. And my kids have always been good sleepers thankfully! Even when they were babies I could rock them, lay them down and they were usually out like a light, lol

  2. Way to rock it. Big, badder, bolder. I honestly don’t like rest days, but that is because I get stir crazy, so even on my rest days, I like to go for a good long walk! That said, I do have days where the inspiration just isn’t there, when I wish that I could phone it in. But I’m nearly always better after I’ve at least moved around a bit. Doesn’t have to be hard, just to get myself awake.

  3. Woo you go! I’m training for my 1st half marathon and I’ve had to take 8 days off due to some muscle issues. I’m scared it will be hard to get back into the swing of things 😦

  4. Training plans are great because sometimes I’m guilty of wanting a rest day even though I might not need it. I try to keep rest days to Friday because it’s the weekend and fun to relax with my boyfriend and friends. Good for you for sticking to such a tough training plan and that run for the hill of it shirt is awesome 🙂

  5. I am so bad at sticking to a plan. Basically I just do whatever I can to get the necessary miles in and if I have to take a rest day or switch some things around that’s okay. It sounds like things are going great so far!

Some nights we are lucky with bedtimes and other…NOT. Mostly we’ve had more problems with waking up WAY too early lately. 🙂

  6. I normally have two rest days per week on a Thursday and Sunday because I do the same five classes every week. It doesn’t always work out though.

  7. Training makes your body beg for rest days. But once you finally get one, it feels pretty awesome. Looks like you are doing an amazing job of getting the training in among a million other things!
