I miss my long runs!
There I said it….oh….it’s like letting out your pants after eating Thanksgiving dinner… feels…so…good. That feels so good to actually say it…well, write it down.
I miss my long runs…the time to run slow and steady, time to think about a LOT of stuff, time to play the mental game of how far to run, when should I walk and when to take my GU’s. I miss running with my running buddy, Krystol (who just rocked her 2nd half marathon 1:59:53) and the few broken conversations we can fit in when not struggling through the run.
I also miss my post run morning stretches with my girls.
I know I will be running more half marathons next year, as I totally got bit by that bug.
One more confession: I may have bought enough deodorant to last the next year. Thanks Costco.
Since I ran the BLT 5k Saturday morning my Sunday Runday was wide open. The girls and I drove back from Halifax so Lilly to go to soccer. Once we got home from that I had it in my head that I would do a “long run” on the treadmill that night. Somehow, both girls got the message loud and clear and went to bed with no problems! Miracle, I say!
At 7:40 I hopped on the treadmill planning to run between 6-9 km…and I managed 10k. A long run. It felt good. REALLY GOOD. My legs were tired but my mind was clear. It was just what I needed. I am hoping to continue my long runs of 8 – 15km over the next two months.
I’m just not ready to give them up.
Last chance to enter the Runalicious contest – ends tonight at midnight!
What’s your running confession?
Have you ever bought THAT much deodorant at once?
Have you started planning or registering for your 2015 races/events?
I agree. I love my long runs.
Though they may be a challenge, they are so good for you 🙂
Amen!!
My running confession : after my long runs I always come home and cook some bacon!!! I love bacon and use my long run as an excuse to eat it 😆 also since my marathon I’m worried about not getting my long runs in missing them, it was a time to chat with the girls ( there’s about 8 of us who do our long runs together) about food, which our conversations always turn to!
Yes I have bought that much deodorant lol however I keep misplacing them ( changing gym bags) they’re like the lip glosses they never get finished and disappear lol PS I LOVE COSTCO. I have kinda been.thinking about 2015 what races to.do and where I can work a trip in… I would love to get back to Ottawa for the Army Half Marathon again in September and trying to figure out which full I’m going to next!!
Cassie – I love this! Bacon 🙂 What’s a pretty good motivator 😉
I usually only have 1 deodorant on the go and one at work just in case. I’m good to go for at least a year…I think.
My running confession? I’ve completely lost my mojo. The 6 weeks with no running just threw me off and now that my half is done and I have no “schedule” I’m just a bit off. I’ve got to get back into a regular routine. I miss my routine.
I do have some races for 2015 planned, but I have yet to hit the submit button. 🙂
I thought I lost my running mojo when I took “one week” off have my half marathon. HA! It’s funny when you take some much needed rest time, whether that’s 1-6 weeks it’s just that much harder to get back at it. I also find it hard now that I’m not “training” for anything.
I am also already missing my long runs…even though my legs are in no shape to be doing them right now. I have not bought that much deodorant before! LOL. But for some weird reason I do have 4 partially full ones just all around the house!
Funny thing about my deodorant….my girls want to put it on after I do. So, I put the cap back on it and then “put” the deodorant on them which always makes them jiggle because it tickles them. Who knew? 🙂
Long runs are the best! Can’t beat them, especially very early Sunday mornings when there’s no one else around apart from other early morning runners. 🙂
I really got used to being out there running on the side of the road/sidewalks etc. and seeing the same 2-3 people out walking/running. It was so nice to run first thing in the morning and have the rest of the day ahead of you.
Long runs are the best! I miss my running bud so much now that I’m gimped. And I can totally relate to the broken, heavy breathing conversations in those last 5-8 kms! Look forward to hitting the roads again sometime next year 🙂
Sometimes I am amazed that I can even have a conversation when I run 😉 Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery 🙂
Long runs were my favourite part of marathon training. It was so easy to fall out of the habit though once I wrapped up my plan. I am the crazy person who will probably start ramping them up again once winter hits!
It’s SO easy to fall out of the habit…I feel like I am already there. I am hoping to maintain them if not every week…ever other week. Though I’m not ready for snow, I love it and can’t wait to run outside this winter….it’s kinda bad ass 😉
Ha, nice! I’m not sure I’m going to stop my long runs, myself. I kind of want to keep this fitness going. Though I am pretty sore after this weekend’s 5 minute PR! We’ll see what happens this weekend.
As for deodorant…I stopped wearing it about 5-6 years ago. Don’t miss it. Feel better without it. I just need to make sure I don’t skip any showers.
I hear ya….I’m kinda surprised I miss my long runs! You did pretty awesome at your half…way to go bud-daaay!
Thank you!!!
I love long runs too. They do get harder during the winters up here though as the cold is quite unforgiving after 1.5 hours. I am planning for 2015 already, it’s exciting to come up with a race plan!
I love winter running, however I think are winters are very different! I want to start planning for next year but I’m just not ready to make the commitment yet. I know I want to do 1-2 half’s but that FULL marathon is still out there somewhere 🙂
Oh I know what you mean. I miss my long runs too. I know I need to rest and recover and have done some medium length runs. But once you get it in your system it is so hard to go without! There will be more. And that bacon idea is brilliant!
Rest and recovering is so crucial! I did 10k Sunday night but really just wanted to do more – maybe this weekend. The bacon is a GREAT idea!
I know what you mean! I’ve taken a little time off from running and am looking forward to getting back out especially because the fall colors are so pretty right now. I do have my 2015 marathon organized and am thinking about a half in March. Honestly, I can’t wait to get back to a training plan. I don’t think I’ve worm deodorant in years – I’m I don’t smell too bad.
It is so beautiful outside here too and a time when people are starting to hide away indoors! They don’t know what they are missing. Training keeps me focused.
I go crazy without my long runs! I need the time to clear my head! Glad your girls cooperated with bedtime…that’s a miracle by itself…and you got “me time” to knock out a nice run! 🙂
My long runs are time to clear my head too. Long enough to escape and have some ME time 😉
Love it! Me time is so precious and rare for mommies!
That is my deodorant….must find a Costco.
My running confession? That even easy runs right now seem hard and long. But at the same time, I miss my real long runs. MAKE UP YOUR MIND BODY.
Seriously, it was like $8 (Canadian)…so worth it!
Oh, I ran a 5k the other night and it was terrible. I didn’t think it was going to end and it was hard too!!!
My confession is the opposite: I hate long running and do not miss it at ALL! During marathon training I got so sick of waking up at the crack of dawn for 18 and 20 mile runs that I wanted to cry. I’m really enjoying this break to focus on shorter races and sleep in on Saturdays! My long run this weekend is 7 miles and that seems like a breeze compared to this summer!
Super cute pic of your kiddos stretching with you 🙂 And I agree, Costco is amazing. Unfortunately I can’t ever go into that store without dropping $200. It’s ridiculous!
With two little ones and a husband who is away often (3 days to 3 weeks) I never get to sleep in…so I had that going for me already 😉
Oh Coscto can consume our money in seconds, ha ha!
I’m up for a long run with you asap! Lets do it! Thanks for the shout out. I missed you at the run, especially in the starting chute. I was very lonely!
Really, you are ready for a long run already!!!! (Maybe this weekend) I am so excited for your 2nd half – you did awesome. First off, it would have been amazing to run it with you but it would have been even better to cheer you on too! I was there in spirit 🙂
Well i don’t know if I’m ready to do 21.1 at race pace, but yes I feel great! So yeah, I’m up for it. Aside from the obvious Soccer I have not much on the go this weekend. I think the oil tank lifting I just did will hurt more than the HM.
Braegha keeps drawing scribble pictures and saying ‘go mama, go mama, go mama – mama RUN’
