Seriously, I can’t believe I did this!
My half marathon in October was my last big race followed by the BLT 5k. I had plans to run a Christmas themed event but didn’t commit to that until last Friday and it’s Nov 29th. It’s a fun 5k put on by a local realty group raising money for Big Brother’s Big Sisters and I get to buy a toy for a kid. You can’t go wrong there. But wait, there is one more!
After soccer Wednesday night I got home and found this message from my running buddy around 10:30 pm:
“hey – in case you really were thinking of doing the Sackville run, registration closes tonight”
Okay, I thought and walked away from the computer. I then mentioned it to my husband. This is where the wheels started turning. Well, why not he said! Why not run it? Lilly has soccer (parent and tot program) and Hilary would need someone to be with her. Then I remembered my sister was going to be visiting. I’d have to travel an hour. I wasn’t trained for it. The list of excuses could go on!
My next thoughts were:
- Oh shit, I thought…I might register for this. I can choose between 5k, 10k, and 15k.
- I could run the 15k and it would be an automatic PB since I’ve never run that distance in a race
- Oh man, I’m crazy for considering this.
- Do I really want to run without any training behind me? (I ran 11k Sunday, 9k Tuesday and soccer Wednesday).
- I thought I was done running/racing for the year?
- This run could help me reach my 1000 km goal! (Which I’m very close to achieving)
And……I then I registered.
My next thoughts:
- Okay, you clearly can manage a decent 10k.
- Good lord, what have I done?
- I’m going to need to locate all my winter running gear now.
- I think I’m addicted to running.
- I’m nuts!
- At least I’ll get to run it with my running buddy 🙂
And that my friends is all it took. One little nudge from my running buddy, when for weeks I said I was done running/racing for the year. Sackville Sneaker Shredder 10k…here I come! Oh, and apparently the course is super hilly! Awesome!
What’s the latest you’ve signed up for a race?
Anyone still racing?

Fun! Your race is also on my birthday so I think that’s a good omen! Lol I think the latest I ran in the year was in December in Arizona.
Happy early birthday to you! Sure hope you have a lovely day!
You might surprise yourself, I do better when there is less planning and stress. Good luck.
Since it was so last minute I’m going to treat it like a normal long run and nothing more. It should be fun and a quick trip in and back 😉
The best races are the ones less planned! I have one more race this weekend and then I’m done racing until 2015. I can’t wait to run just for the heck of it.
This is completely unplanned 😉 The last week I finally feel like I am running just for the heck of it and it’s kinda nice. No commitment to training or a distance to accomplish – just run what I want to.
Good luck this weekend at your race!
The latest I’ve signed up for a race was a few days before when I won an entry to it (RnR this year). I feel like you can totally do it if you would basically be planning to run that much anyway! GO FOR IT!
That race seems like forever a go, I remember when you won it! I’m not too worried about the distance but more the thought of being timed, ha ha ha 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend.
I signed up for four…darn pay day
I’m glad I’m not the only one 😉
I think you might have a running problem! I’m waiting to see how much foot feels before signing up for anything. I think a 10K is a great distance for last minute sign up!
I agree! I swear, I’m not signing up for any more this year 🙂 Next one will be in 2015!
Have a great run! I teach in Sackville this year. 🙂 I’ve never took part in that event so I’d love to hear your thoughts once you’re done.
Race season is just beginning for me! I typically focus on hitting certain goals in one or two races a year and then when the holiday races come along I go nuts! So, I’ve got a thanksgiving run, hanukkah run, christmas run, and new year’s run…then I’ll be off for a few months at least. 🙂 Have fun at your 10k!
