Taking the Curve Ball and Pointing It in the Right Direction

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and the path you wanted to take doesn’t always happen. Though I’m bummed about no soccer, I am thankful I can still run (a little) and focus on getting stronger and healthier. Really, it could be worse.

bright side of it

I’m bummed out that I can’t ski, snowshoe or skate with the girls, all of which I was looking forward to doing this winter….in time. We’re hoping to head to the city to spend some time with my parents and siblings before they head off to New York for a family wedding. I wish we were able to attend my cousin’s wedding but it’s not in the cards for us right now. I’ve never been to NY and would love to visit.

Instead, I’m planning on running my 1 kilometer and working on some upper body stuff at GoodLife Fitness while I’m in the city, maybe a little shopping too. Retail therapy can’t hurt unless you are trying to shop at Target in Canada. They just announced they are closing 😦

Anyway, I might even venture to the pool with the girls if I can get my act together and find our swim suits! If not, we will play outside with Maclean. I know they will have no objections to that….unless it’s -10 or below out. They love being outside. Maybe we will repeat painting the snow!

(Last weekend)

My leg is feeling good today and it’s my day to “walk – run 1k – walk” so I’m looking forward to getting that in later tonight. If I don’t put in the time now I won’t be able to head in the direction I want to be, which is training for my next race and then a full marathon. It’s super hard running so s-l-o-w… like slow as molasses running off a spoon onto buttered bread.

Do you go swimming in the winter (indoor pools)?

Do you like to hit up the gym when travelling?

What are your weekend plans?

  1. I just heard about Targets in Canada! What’s up with that!?
I’m so glad your leg is feeling good. Just keep taking it easy. I know it stinks to have to slow down so much, but you’ll definitely get back to where you were before with a little rest! (Marathon training is a lot more of a slow process anyway!)

  2. I heard about the Targets closing too! Oh the HORROR!!! I travel for work a lot and I do hit up the hotel gym. I’ve found a yoga studio in Cleveland that I liked. I’ve only gone once, but next time I’m in town, I’m definitely going again. Charlotte’s birthday is this weekend, so that’s what I’ve got going on. 🙂

  3. Let your light shine girl! Do what you can. Swimming in the winter is so easy because the pool is less crowded. I love it, and swim all winter long (and all summer long). Of course, it may be easier to do in NC than it is in Canada. ha!

  4. Great attitude! And I love that you and your girls get outside as often as possible, even in the winter! 🙂 I definitely have a harder time getting out the door, but I love being out in the fresh air just as much in January as in July.

    • They love being outside. It was super cold here this weekend, around -17c and I couldn’t even begin to tell you what the windchill was but it was in the -20 to -29c!!! They did go out for 40 minutes Saturday afternoon when it wasn’t SO cold!

  5. I just heard about Target too. I heard that Canadians just didn’t dig what Target had to offer. Those of us south of the border just can’t get enough! This was a great post and something I think so many of us can appreciate when we have pains and niggles. Working the upper body is always a great option!

    • I think it was a little of that and a little of wanting the same products that they offer in the US along with their prices. Those of us North of the border will just continue to drive to the US to shop there when we can!
Hope you had a great weekend!

  6. Target = ❤ broken 😦
Anna, I like how your attitude is so positive. In December when I was ordered by my doc not to run I was devastated. But then I realized that taking care of my body was #1. Then I came up with some other plans in case I was told running would be out of the picture. Feel good in knowing that your hamstring WILL heal and you will get back to soccer, skiiing, etc real soon. 😉

    • I hear ya on Target! Was there on the weekend and felt so bad for the employees.
I’m trying to be positive however some times it’s hard. Better to be positive then negative because that won’t get me anywhere! I had a nice little run at GoodLife Saturday which was fun and something different.
Hope you had a great weekend – looks like you did on IG!
