Eight Years Ago

November tenth, two thousand and seven started off bright and sunny, slowly turned to overcast and then moved right into snow/wet snow coming down. It was cold too! I’m not sure if it was the weather gods telling us that this was a good day to be married or what.

You see, I I felt it was fitting since we met at an Outdoor Centre where we spent a lot of our time outside. We first started dating in March and my then boyfriend was living in the US (He’s British though)…and he’d drive 17 hours one way to hang out with me. I’d take the short trip commute by plane, either to Chicago or St. Louis and he’d pick me up ๐Ÿ™‚ We’d cross-country ski in the winter and canoe in the summer and spent a lot of time outside in all-weather. You can read more about how we met here.

I felt the weather that day was all the weather you could have year-round packed in one day. Just fitting. Kinda like a marriage with ups and downs, laughter and tears, challenges and successes. Beaming sun, overcast clouds, and flurries drifting in the air and falling to the ground, not to mention the temperatures dipping down even more. The weather didn’t stop our small wedding which was composed of only 14 people, though we’d later celebrate our marriage with a church blessing and reception the next summer (8/8/8) with roughly 80 people.

Even with the sun, the overcast clouds and the snow/wet snow, it didn’t dampen our day. The ups and downs, the laughter and tears, the challenges and successes we’ve shared over the years hasn’t dampened our relationship – only made it better.

I feel blessed that we have two beautiful daughters who drive me nuts a lot of the time and yes I’m thankful for that too. We are lucky in so many ways. Eight years ago, I married my best friend.

Happy Anniversary Saรฏ…love you.

  1. Happy anniversary to 2 wickedly awesome people. Even if I’ve only met you both in person once, I can affirm the awesome!
