I’m more than half way through this training cycle and I’m feeling like the last two weeks have been just mediocre.
Week 7, I was sick for most of it and out of commission for 4 days (3 missed runs) and this week I skipped a mid week run plus some strength training (different days). Though I ran a race yesterday I’m feeling a little blah about running/training.
What was Planned vs What Really Happened.
Monday May 16th: Stretch & Strength | IronStrength. I’m still loving this workout but needing to step it up a bit more. I feel like I’m letting it slide a bit.
Tuesday: 7k | 7k + 4:02 plank. An evening 7k on Spital Road which is a bunch of rolling hills. Good run. The plank was done over 4 minutes (two arms, right arm/side, left arm/side and than forearms. Rough!
Wednesday: 9 x 400’s| Nothing. Instead of running I spent the night hanging out with my Mom who was visiting and Saï.
Thursday: 5k + Strength | 5k Runch. This was a hard 5k, not sure why but I struggled. Though my time below didn’t look like I was struggling, I physically felt like I was. It was sunny and warm which was a bonus.
Friday: Rest Day | Rest Day. Nailed it!
Saturday: 7k | 2k Walk girls at Bluenose Marathon Youth Run. This was a fun yet HOT, HOT, HOT day. (recap to come).
Sunday: 10k | 10k Bluenose Marathon (recap to come).
KM ran this week: 22km
KM this training cycle: 271 km
Race: Johnny Miles (June 19th)
Training Plan: Hal Higdon Intermediate (modified in KM)
Last week’s training: week 7.
So, I’m not overly excited about this past weeks training. Feeling kinda blah about running and that I’m in slow-mode with training. Though training wasn’t great, my weekend was!
How was your weekend?
What do you do when you’re feeling “blah” about training?
Anyone race?
I’ll be recapping the Bluenose Marathon 10k, youth run & expo this week!
I always just try to accept that “Blah” weeks are inevitable in training, and know they’ll go away eventually. Sometimes taking an extra rest day helps, cause then I feel like I really want to run instead of just “having to” because I’m training.
I think having the head cold really set me back. My energy just didn’t want to come back. I’m hoping this past weekend was a rest (2 rest days and instead of a long run of 16k I raced 10k).
You must be getting pumped about your FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job at the BN! It was lovely seeing you and thanks for the pic!
When I am blah I try to change things up….maybe go to the gym, try out a new route, etc. Sometimes it works and when it doesn’t I order new running gear lol.
Thanks Heather. I’m glad I did BN but not overly happy with my time. Ahh well, that’s life, eh!
You looked so strong when I saw you, so glad a caught a photo of you!
New running gear is a good idea!
Blah weeks are rough, sorry you’ve been feeling that way. I had a crazy head cold this last week too, those things are brutal!
That head cold took the good out of me. I still had it this past weekend and felt like I couldn’t breathe properly at my 10k.
Blah weeks happen and I try to rest a little more and mix things up when they do. Awesome job on getting through the week! No races planned for me until fall which is kind of nice to take a break from training to play with pace and distance.
Thanks! I feel like I rested too much last week and I think that’s what’s got me in this head space. So far, this week is going better!
