Dear March Break,

I’m done with you!

I thought it was going to be an amazing week of fun adventures with my kids but when Monday morning at 10am hit and I had already lost my shit 5 times…I knew I was in trouble. March Break – you used to be so much fun….I had such high hopes.

Last year, we took a little ski adventure for half the week and did a soccer camp for the other half – genius, that was just genius! This year with life being so busy leading up to you, I though a “staycation” would be perfect. Wrong! Wrong by Monday morning!!

It’s only Thursday and though we’ve had some fun adventures (I’ll share below), I’m actually really happy I have to work tomorrow. Just for 1 day…no tantrums, no defiant kid who hates getting dressed, no “I’m hungry” five minutes after they finished their massive lunch.  AND…I’m pretty sure they are wrestling on the bed upstairs as I write this. (Not wrestling, I checked but the game ended as someones head hit the wall).

This morning’s they created a game of hopping from one play mat to the other to avoid the crocodiles. It was great, fun, challenging and then they worked on their physical literacy skills: tackling! No joke, my kids started tackling each other (as crocodiles) and my response was “please stop tackling your sister, however your tackle was pretty great. No more tackling until you are playing a sport that requires it”. Who says that?!?!

Yup, March break…I’m done with you.

Monday: I can’t even remember what happened Monday morning but by 10 am I was done with tantrums and our feisty four year old. We went to see the movie “Storkes” with friends – cute movie, they loved it. Then we had an epic spaghetti dinner at a friends house using anything but forks to eat our meal. Messy and hilarious – no photos unfortunately.

Tuesday: Ski day before a big snow storm. We skied from 9:15 until 3 with a quick lunch break in there. Hilary (4 year old) did her first run on the big hill and only had 1 meltdown on the steepest part….fair enough, I probably did that at her age on the hill.

Though it’s a bit of work taking them skiing…it’s so worth it! I could do this every day…and maybe I should have this week. Ahh well, though it’s been an up and down week, the girls are having a blast and I’m sprouting a few new grey hairs 😉

Though my husband was working 😦 and missed the ski day, I’m lucky to have a Dad that loves to ski with his grand kids. Three runs on my own was my sanity saver, ha ha!

Wednesday: Since the snow storm wasn’t as epic as it could have been (and rain) we ventured out to the new local library and got some books out. They also had a March Break event so the girls played some games, won prizes and the four of us got to enjoy the afternoon together.

Today has been epic meltdown morning for Hilary. Since their wrestling match ended quickly thanks to me, they are now playing school. Tomorrow they are at day care of a ST. Patrick’s Day party…sugar them up!

Time to bust out the snow pants and get outside with them…the trail is calling our name.

March break – your not so bad but next year we are not staying home 😉

Are you on March Break?

What do you do with your kids on March Break?

  1. That is my everyday life just add an almost 1 year old. Some days are better than others. Happy Saint Patty Day tomorrow.

  2. That looks like a lot of fun to me! But yes when the kids just go at each other like that it gets really old quickly.
