January & February Goals

First off, today is #BellLetsTalk Day in Canada. This means that every time you text, share on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat), long distance phone calls on mobile and home phones, Bell will donate 5¢ towards Mental Health initiatives in Canada. ANYONE can use the #bellletstalk hashtag – PLEASE do today. Join the conversation!

I’ll likely be tweeting, texting, sharing more on social media today because mental health is important to me. With friends and family members who live with depression, anxiety etc., it’s one thing I can do to help. Have the conversation, not just today but every day.

Back to my original post for today.

January Goals

Though I set my January Goals rather late, they were simple goals for me to focus on. Simple and easy goals is were it’s at for me this year. Maybe later on I’ll set some other goals but I’m taking it month at a time.

  1. Stay Active. I feel like I accomplished this. I ran, downhill skied, cross country skied, skated, cycled and went to yoga. Most of it was done with my daughters. Oh and we walked our dog A LOT!
  2. Go to Physio (sort out hip/obliques) – Yup, weekly PT appointments are my thing now. Seeing some progress but still in some pain with my obliques.
  3. Enjoy time with family. – Yes! We had a busy month from skiing, learning how to skates again, read a lot of books, watched some movies and Netflix (got the girls hooked on the old Full House), we even got sick together.

February Goals

February Goals

February will be about challenging myself a little bit. I want to plank every day with no time commitment. I’ll continue with my physio and strengthening my hip/obliques. I want to cycle 100km since I’m not running high mileage and loving being on my bike for 45-60 minutes.

I also want to ski as much as we can and would love to take my girls night skiing but all the stars have to align for that one! And the Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to watch Canada (and other countries) at the Winter Olympics. I think one of the things I like the most about the Olympics is being able to expose my children to multiple sports. They can watch the athletes compete individually and as part of a team.

Did you reach any goals in January?

Are you going to watch the Olympics?

Do you have any goals planned for February?

Don’t forget to text, tweet, share with the hashtag #bellletstalk today!

Jan 22nd – 28th Weekly Wrap Up

Last week was what I would say a low and lazy week. I was feeling under the weather for most of it and by the end of the week came down with a nasty head cold. You know, weekends are make for fun…not head colds and sick!

Jan 22nd – 28th

I did a few work outs last week but nothing big. It went a little like this:

Monday Jan 22nd: Nothing. But I sure got a lot of sleep that night.

Tuesday: Nothing again. However, my husband and I went to the Banff Film Festival in Wolfville which was awesome! It was a series of films from 4 – 30 minutes in length, everything from climbing to badass women slack liners and mountain bikers, to a 90 female skater and major expeditions on glaciers.

Wednesday: Nothing, other then PT exercises and walking our dog.

Thursday: 5km Treadmill Run + PT exercises. Treadmill run was nice and easy though it felt like I haven’t run in ages …. which I haven’t. It was a wear your Tiux compression socks kind of night! {Check out my discount page here}

Friday: Physiotherapy appointment  which went well and more sleep that night. Felt horribly sick that night.

Saturday: Walked the dog. Took the girls to their basketball jamboree and yes, more sleep.

Sunday: Skating and walked the dog. Light skating with Hilary while Lilly was at a birthday party. Again, more sleep.

Though this week was pretty low and lazy, I needed it. I’m not training for anything and my body just needed to rest a lot this week. I’ve been just trying to feel better so rest, sleep, hydration and good food…okay, maybe some bad food in there too (let’s be honest)

It’s another week and we’re expecting a snow storm tonight and tomorrow! Woohoo! Yup, I love snow and hoping to get out our snow shoes!!!

How was your week?

Ever lay low for a whole week THEN get super sick?

What’s one thing you are looking forward to this week?

January 2018 Runfessions

Every time I come to write these Runfession posts, I’m blown away that the month is wrapping up and a new one is starting. I still feel like it’s early January and I’ve lost a week’s worth of time!

Runfessions are shared on the last Friday of the month and is hosted by Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice! You can check out her blog and read about lots of other blogger’s Runfessions in her link up!

January Runfessions

Runfession #1 – I haven’t run in along time and haven’t felt the desire to run! Eeek! That felt good to get off my chest. I mean, I’ve wanted to get a run in all week but the desire to actually go for a run is non existent…until last night. Well if I am really runfessing….I only ran last night because I have physio today and I wanted to see how my hip/glutes would react. I’m happy riding my bike on the trainer, skiing with my kids and taking a few extra rest days in a row to just relax! Running motivation is low.

IMG_20180125_210139_221[1]

Runfession #2 – I want to get a road bike! Good lord, what have I done by writing that down on my blog! Though I love my trail bike that I have and it’s probably all I need, I’m tempted to start riding on the road more come spring/summer. Honestly, I have no sweet clue if I’ll actually get a road bike but I want one, ha!

Runfession #3 – I love running outdoors in the winter – specifically on the trails with Carmacks – but I’m 110% unmotivated to run outside in the winter at night time this last month. It’s not the cold or even the ice under foot, I just have zero motivation to do it. Maybe it’s because I’m not training for anything or really running all that much….or that I have a treadmill in my warm basement. I dunno!

Runfession #4 – Being a runner, you usually have a few races in mind or have at least registered for a race in the coming year. Though I have once race on my plan, I haven’t registered or even looked at other races. I just really want to sort out my hip/glutes and oblique problems before I fork over money that might go to waste.

Runfession #5 – I would like more snow! I know, some of you aren’t a fan of me now but we like to play in it, ski in it, snowshoe in it and well……….there is only a slight dusting down. If it could just snow 5cm each night for a week, we’d get enough accumulation to play in the snow yet still have school on and safe roads. Just sayin’!

I also runfess that I’m not making any 2018 goals for the year…just not feeling it. However, I’m going to continue to make monthly goals. I’ll blog about it at some point. Happy Friday folks!

Can you believe it’s the end of January already?

Have any runfessions you want to share?

Love or hate snow?

Jan 15 – 21st Weekly Wrap Up

I’m behind the times with my blog post! We had such a busy weekend of attending a University basketball game, the girls basketball practice, birthday party for the girls, hitting the hill and more……that I ran out of time to blog on the weekend. So here is my weekly wrap up from last week!

January 15-21st

Monday: Indoor ride 20.43 km. Nice and easy ride.

IMG_20180118_212218_042[1]

Tuesday: Indoor ride: 24.47km – 60 minutes of riding.

I missed yoga as I had a sick kid with me at work. Strep throat hit both girls this week and it was horrible to see them in so much pain. Thankful for meds, that’s for sure!

Wednesday: Physio appointment/Rest Day.

Thursday: Indoor ride: 20.37km. My butt hates me but my legs are feeling stronger!

IMG_20180116_212242_109[1]

Friday: Rest day.

Saturday: Cross Country Skiing! I wanted to run but had 2 hours of kid free time and thought I’d hit up our local trail (Harvest Moon Trailway) for a little ski. I did 6k and it felt pretty good on my hip which got sore later on. I iced it and that helped. It’s been a few years since I’ve pulled out my cross country skis…hope to get on the again this winter!

IMG_20180120_202810_965[1]

Sunday: More winter fun….we went downhill skiing Sunday morning. It was super busy at Martock but that’s to be expected. The girls had a blast and asked when we could go again!!

IMG_20180121_150157_211[1].jpg

I’ve yet to get in a run but have a few more days until my next physio appointment to get a run in. I’m loving cycling lately and seem to be racking up the mileage there! It helps that I can watch a show while I ride….or at least listen to a show while I peddle my legs.

Also, I still haven’t written a 2018 goals post. I have it drafted but changed it 10 times already. I’m wondering if I should even post about it at this point.

How was your week?

Anyone else get outside on the weekend?

Have you set your goals for this year…this late before?
