Jan 8- 14th Weekly Wrap & Goals

We are half way through January already folks, can you believe it! I’ve still yet to set any 2018 goals (well, they are in my head but not shared yet). Nor have I shared any monthly goals.

One thing I’m trying to do is write a weekly wrap up…so far I’m two for two! I’m linking up with Hollyand Wendy for the Weekly Wrap. I have been busy trying to stay active in between work, winter storms, kids basketball practices and life in general. I’m sure you can all relate to how life is busy!

Weekly Wrap for Jan 8th – 14th

Monday: 4k Treadmill Run/Walk.

Tuesday: Yoga Flow at lunch time – my body needed this!

Wednesday: 5k Treadmill run. Yeah, still have my #merrymill lights up. I had a few a-ha moments during this run which lead me to not post my goals for the year last week. Nothing major but it helped me scale things back a bit.

Thursday: Physio appointment + exercises.

Friday: Rest Day. a.k.a….was lazy and really didn’t want to work out. TRUTH!

Saturday: 12.5km ride. I think I went that far….my odometer needs a new battery so it was a little off. If anything, I went further then 12.5k but that was the last number I saw.

Sunday: 21.42km ride. I rode for a full 60 minutes and the last 20 was intense!

Total km running: 9

Total km cycling: 33.92

I haven’t set any goals for the month of January but have been focusing on trying to stay active while dealing with a hip/oblique injury. This isn’t a new one injury as I’ve been dealing with it since the summer but finally getting the right treatment for it now. So I guess my January goals are….

January Goals

  1. Stay Active
  2. Go to Physio (sort out hip/obliques)
  3. Enjoy time with family.

I’m keeping it simple this month – maybe even this year. Sure I want to run all the races, run a sub 2 hour half marathon, get all the PB’s, save money, declutter my house, take my kids camping. Those things will happen when they are supposed to happen. For now (January) – stay active, go to physio, enjoy time with family.

How was your week?

Did you set any goals for January?

Do you have a big goal for 2018?

I don’t always post on here but you can find me posting daily over at Instagram.

Weekly Wrap Up

Jan 1 – 7th Weekly Wrap

With the first week of the year finished and on snow day number three for my kids, I have to confess I didn’t workout much last week! I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap – lots of great bloggers to read about here!

Monday Jan 1st. Happy New Year!!!

Traditionally, I’ve run my first kilometre of the year with my kids. It started about 4 years ago with my oldest wanting to join me and I figured why not. We bundle up with the plan of running 1k together on a loop around where we live.

The second year my youngest joined us and last year since my husband was home, he joined us as well. This year it was me, my girls and our retired sled dog Carmacks while Saï was working. It was late in the day and we had to walk our dog so figured we’d get in a run instead.

Both girls were loving it! Bundled up as it was STUPID cold, we ran one lap around (1k) and then decided to do another lap. I’m not sure what Carmacks was thinking of both girls running with he and I but there was lots of laughter and excited by all!

Tuesday – Ski Day. I took the girls skiing while Saï worked again (shift work). We had a great day on the bunny hill despite the fridge temperatures. Both girls were loving it and would have stayed all day! My Dad met us as well, which is always fun. That allowed for me to get in three runs by myself, thanks Dad!

Wednesday: Ski Day! With the girls back to school, I was on my last vacation day. I had a PT appointment for my hip first thing and then drove to Ski Martock to ski with my Dad again. We got in some good runs…man he is way faster then me! To give credit, he does ski almost every weekday from January – March.

Thursday/Friday – Bomb cyclone hit us (snow, freezing rain and then hurricane winds). I worked from home those days while the girls played in the house (I may have gone a little crazy). I did get in some foam rolling on these items I won from Travel Roller (hands down the best form roller I have):

Saturday: It was spent cleaning the whole house – yuck! Mopping floors, 5 loads of laundry, cleaning three bathrooms (never own a house with three bathrooms). I was done by the end of the day. No running or anything else.

Sunday: We played outside for a bit, folded laundry that I didn’t get to and made some awesome soups – Chunky Tomate Beefy Soup and Leek & Potato – both so good!

That was my first week of 2018. I only ran 2km, went skiing twice and missed one soccer game and failed to start the Strava 40/80 challenge! It started off great and then went downhill fast. I have no excuses as I have a treadmill and my bike on it’s trainer. It’s okay, today’s the start of another week!

How was your first week of 2018?

Anyone run a New Year’s Day race?

Did you get hit by the bomb cyclone?

Recap of 2017 Goals

Last January, I set a few yearly goals that I wanted to work on. Some I did, some I didn’t and some that I just forgot about. Maybe I set too many but I set them anyway.

Before I share with you my 2018 goals, I need to recap last year’s goals! These are the goals I set and how I did!

2017 Goals

Family:

Be outside as a family. We were outside a lot, everything from snowshoeing, skiing, to swimming in the summer and biking. I coached my youngest in soccer so I was on the field with her for 10 weeks. In the fall, we kept riding our bikes into November as it was still that nice out!

Go camping and canoeing. Sadly, this one did not happen at all which was disappointing.

Use our Canada 150 National Park Pass. We did use our Canada 150 pass while in PEI but didn’t get down to Keji (hence not going camping).

Running:

Run more with my family. We didn’t really run much as a family 😦

Run more then last year (846 km). Nope! A car accident and heart problem stopped me from running a lot.

Volunteer at a few races in any capacity.  I only got to volunteer at the Valley Harvest Marathon 10k as a pace bunny and I had a blast! Sure hope to do this more in 2018!

Run at least two half marathons. SO CLOSED ON THIS ONE! I ran a half in June and then two days before my 2nd half, I had some heart problems and was advised to stop running until further testing. Heartbroken for sure!

Go after PB’s. This. Did. Not. Happen.

Other:

Strength train/Cross train/Get Stronger. I did a good amount of cross training (yoga, cycling, swimming) but really need to do better at strength training.

Keep Blogging. I did keep blogging but sure lagged a lot.

Practice More Yoga.  I didn’t practice more yoga and hoping to do more in 2018.

Be a wannabe cyclist. Check! Since getting a trainer for my bike I was able to do more biking. However the best biking was with my daughter’s in October and November.

Declutter the house. Yes, I started the process but man I just wish I could take a full week off to do a super clean and declutter of my house with no kids around. It’s amazing what you can get done on your own!

Set mini monthly goals. Yes, I did this every month. Most months I didn’t complete all goals but that’s okay. Setting goals gave me something to work towards rather then just doing nothing.

Challenge myself. I think so but kinda feeling like this goal should have been more specific.

Journal. I did some bullet journalling for running which I liked and started off the year with a gratitude book but gave up on that. I write in a book/journal for each of my daughters about life stuff and kept that up for the whole year. It’s something I plan to give them when they are older and hopefully they will enjoy reading about their childhood shenanigans :).

So those were my goals for 2017. Some specific, some open and vague. I do appreciate setting goals and working towards them and even not achieving some of them. I’m human and life happens so you can’t do everything the way you want to sometimes. You readjust your goals and go again!

Do you set goals for the year?

Ever give up on them, abandon them or adjust them?

What’s your number 1 goal for 2018?

Running Mileage for 2017 {in photos}

It’s amazing how many kilometres, laps, games or classes one can accumulate over the span of a year. I started doing a running mileage of the year post last year and thought I’d continue on.

I’ve shared these all on IG, as that’s where I post daily but you can also see the totals at the bottom of this post from running, cycling, soccer, yoga, skiing and more.
