Run, Cycle, Yoga, Ski {12th – 25th} Wrap Up

It’s been two weeks since I’ve done a weekly wrap up only because I didn’t have time to blog it out! A little running outdoors, cycling, yoga and some good ski days in there! The last two weeks went a little like this!

Right now, it’s all about the variety in my workouts! There is no consistency and I’m totally fine with that! We have very little snow (on the hills) but skiing is still pretty darn sweet. Yesterday’s run on the trail with Carmacks was great!

Also, if you missed my February Runfessions….because I didn’t post it on Friday – you can check it out here!

How was your weekend/week?

Are you training for anything?

Are you all about variety in your workouts or focusing on one thing?

February Runfessions

Though it’s not the last Friday of the month (it’s Sunday), I’m still going to recap my February Runfessions.

Runfessions are shared on the last Friday of the month and is hosted by Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice! You can check out her blog and read about lots of other blogger’s Runfessions in her link up!

I runfess that I’m really loving not running ALL THE TIME!!! I’ve been skiing a fair amount (for me), cycling way more and getting back to as many yoga classes as I can. Having said that, I’m really looking forward to running more consistently  and maybe even start training for a race!

runfess that I’ve signed up for a race! Yup, finally bit the bullet and registered for another half marathon!!! I’m keeping which one under wraps for now but hoping I can start getting in some longer distances runs soon.

runfess that my hip/obliques are starting to feel better but not at 100%. I’ve been doing my PT exercises daily and taking my runs really easy lately. I don’t have to see my physiotherapist for another four weeks! PROGRESS!!! However, still not allowed to play soccer….which for now, I’m okay with.

I runfess that though I’m doing a plank challenge this month….I’m done with it! I usually do it after I workout but on rest days I find myself doing it super late at night. Like, right before bed. Sometimes I forget about it and I’m already in bed and get out from under my warm duvet and pull out a minute plank. Positing it to my IG stories has helped keep me accountable but I’m also ready to be done that too! I’ll probably plank in March but not every day.

IMG_20180222_202340_783[1].jpg

runfess that I’ve watch a tone of Olympics and said to see it end! Seriously! It’s been a fun way to introduce multiple sports to my daughters and see them get excited about sport(s). Each morning they’d wake up asking how we (Canada) did and if they can watch the recaps during breakfast….of course, I’d say yes!!! Also, a new record of 29 Winter Olympic medals for Canada – so awesome! The good news is that the Paralympics start on March 9th and I’m looking forward to watching those amazing athletes as well.

How was your month of February?

Anything to runfess?

How many races have you signed up for in 2018 (already)?

Half Way Through February

This month is slipping by rather quickly so I thought I’d do a short check-in post about my February goals.

These are the goals I set:

February Goals

So far so good. I’m on track with all of them but slacking a little on the skiing one. We’ve had other weekend commitments and weather that hasn’t cooperated with the days we could ski…so that one is a work in progress (but I have a plan).

I’ve planked every day, usually before bed. I’ve been keeping accountable on IG stories each day sharing my plank times. I’m not going for a specific time but at least one minute each day.

Week 1

Plank Week 1.jpg

Week 2: Forgot to take save a picture on Day 10. I messed up my dates, so Saturday 1:10 is Feb 10th. Feb 12 (1:04) is the 11th and 1:37 Day 12 is the 12th. Photo fails, good thing I write it down!

Plank Week 2

I’ve cycled 60.56 km so far and feeling like I’ll reach my 100 km for the month. Though running mileage isn’t a goal this month, I had a great treadmill run and FINALLY got out with my running buddy, Krystol Friday night. I know, wild Friday night!!!

Lots of PT exercises happening every day. Sometimes I do them all, sometimes I just do 2-3 of them. My hip and obliques are getting strong but not 100% still. It’s a work in process.

Also……loving the Olympics! Canada already has 16 medals! Our girls are super into the Olympics and learning about new to them sports like Curling, skeleton and speed skating.

How’s your February going?

Are you glued to the Olympics or watch it occasionally?

Are you doing a monthly challenge? How’s it going?

I don’t post daily on the blog but you can find me almost daily over at Instagram

Feb 5th – 11th Wrap Up

February has kicked off with some snow, then rain, a little more snow and yes, MORE rain! I’m trying to not let the weather stop me from being active but I’d sure love a good dump of snow to play in for more then 1-2 days. My poor snowshoes are feeling neglected!

With the Olympics kicking off last Friday, we’ve been catching games and events as we can in between basketball practices and birthday parties for the girls. Watching athletes in the Olympics sure can light a fire under your butt to get moving just a little bit more.

Feb 5th – 11th Workouts:

Monday: Plank + PT exercises

Tuesday: Plank + PT exercises.

Wednesday: 5k run in the snow. Plank – not in the snow.

To be honest, I’ve been avoiding running due to my hip injury for no reason other then I was trying to avoid pain. It started snowing Wednesday around supper time and I had this great motivation to run outside in the snow. So, I laced up with my Yak Trax’s on and went out for a 5k run. I miscalculated a bit since I hit a button on my Garmin a few times but was satisfied with the 5k in fluffy snow. There was so much snow coming down, that when I came back around one loop my foot prints had almost disappeared. After all that snow, we had rain and by morning it was all gone!

Thursday: 23 km cycling, plank. I was having some pain in my hip/back so decided that cycling would be a good workout for me….and I could watch 9-1-1 while I rode. Have you seen that show yet?

GarminConnect_20180208-211032[1]

Friday: Physio appointment, Plank, PT exercises.

Saturday: Plank + PT exercises.

Sunday: Last minute 5 k at 9:20 pm! Plus, Plank and PT exercises.

IMG_20180211_221124_153[1].jpg

After a busy day with the girls and visiting with my parents, my opportunity to run was slipping away fast. My husband got home later then normal and I just kept cleaning up and getting organized for the week. All of a sudden it was 8:30 and I wasn’t even in my running gear. Urgh!

Once my husband got home, we chatted for a while about our days and I just figured my run would happen another day. At 9:09 (yes, I remember looking at the time), I decided screw this, I’m running and blurted it out of my mouth. My husband’s response was “good, go get ready”. So I did.

I really wasn’t expecting much and started my run at 9:22 on the treadmill as it was freezing rain outside. I figured if I got in 3-4 k, that would be great. I had some slight discomfort in my obliques but not pain so I ran. I ran, and I ran. It was comfortable. It felt easy. It just felt really GREAT! I don’t remember the last time I felt that good running.

It was close to 10 pm and I had gotten heavily into an old Grey’s episode and couldn’t stop watching (the one where they all get shot). Anyway…I stretched and did my PT exercises followed by a plank. I quickly showered and went to bed sometime after 11 pm. Such a late bed time for me but that run was WORTH it!

And yes, I’m tired this morning. Super tired! I was up at 3 am with one girl and 5 am because I couldn’t sleep. Still, that run was worth it!

How was your week/weekend?

Favourite Olympic moment so far?

When was the last time you had such a great run (or workout)?

Jan 29th – Feb 4th Wrap Up

You’d hardly know it’s winter in Nova Scotia today as it’s raining and we’ve lots all the snow that fell last week! Last week’s workouts were a but of everything but no running!

Wrap Up

Monday Jan 29th:  Rest Day.

Tuesday:  20k Cycling – indoor trainer. The girls snuck in a 15 minute snowshoe at the end of the day while I walked Carmacks.

IMG_20180131_083339_224[1].jpg

Wednesday: 30 minutes of Snowshoeing! Since we had a dump of snow, I walked Carmacks first thing in my snowshoes for 10 minutes. I also got out during my lunch break for 20 minutes.

IMG_20180131_140433_605[1]

Thursday (FEB): Skiing!!! It was an in-service day for my daughters and I had booked the day off work. We spent the whole morning skiing and it was awesome!

Picture_20180205_085920674[1].jpg

Friday 2nd: I took Friday as a rest day but still did my PT exercises and plank.

Saturday 3rd:  Skating. We’ve been battling head colds all week and my oldest wasn’t feeling great so we skipped morning basketball to sleep in. The girls really want to skate so I took them skating at a local arena. They had a blast!

As mentioned, I started my plank challenge – plank every day in February. I usually do this before bed, mainly because I’ve forgotten about it during the day time….but I’m getting it done!

IMG_20180203_220942_346[1]

Sunday 4th: I desperately wanted to run outside today but the stars did not align. I thought about getting on the treadmill but just didn’t have the energy after getting the girls to bed (I usually workout at night).

After getting the girls to bed I decided I’d do an hour of yoga but got distracted by my bicycle puzzle that was under the couch. Apparently, I just needed something to be distracted by and got so into it that I finished it!

IMG_20180204_205135_128[1].jpg

I got in 30 minutes of yoga and some PT exercises! It’s the puzzle cool, worth it!

How was your week?

Did you take in the Superbowl? (I didn’t, shhh!)

What’s the weather like where you live?

January Mileage

With February ticking away quickly, I finally got together my January mileage. Though it has few kilometres of running, it sure has a lot of other winter activities that I love!

January Mileage

IMG_20180202_163242_459[1]

January was a month of simple goals. My main focus is to get my hip/obliques stronger so I can get running A LOT more! You know, train for an upcoming half that I have yet to register for. Also, I want to get back to soccer (I’m crazy, yeah I know) but that will happen when it happens.

January saw a lot of cycling, a little running and lots of winter fun. I haven’t cross-country skied in a few years so it was great to get out and do that; fingers crossed I can get out again this month! The girls are loving skating and wanting to go more and more.

Though there was little running, I got in a lot of cross training and no one every said cross training is a bad thing!

How was your January mileage?

Are you all about running or changing it up in the “off season”?

The Olympics start Friday!!! What are you looking forward to the most?
