You Know Your A Runner When…

Ever have one of those moments when you realise running is taking over?

You know you are a runner when you pack your bags for the weekend and forget to pack a change of clothing. As in t-shirt and pants for the day. Don’t worry, you’ve remembered to pack your winter running gear, two outfits for the gym in case you decide to stay inside. As you are running you make good decisions like the running sneakers you are wearing are going to remain “outdoor” runners since you now have salt caked on them from the roads.

Yup, I packed all my running gear as we left for the city yesterday morning after Lilly’s swim lessons. However, I forgot to pack clothing for today. The girls spent the afternoon with their Auntie Laura and I shopped! I shopped for more hours then I care to admit but feel like I’m ready for birthday celebrations later this week.

Birthday celebrations? We have two special birthdays this week; a 3rd and 40th to celebrate. So I had to find presents for these two special people.

This morning I managed to sneak out for a run while the girls spent some time with Grammy and Grandad. After I returned, I saw these branches on the ground and thought it was a sign. A for Anna (my real name) or “A” for Adventure which we will be attending a book launch called “A for Adventure” later today.

Though I sit here in my clothing from yesterday, I feel good knowing I at least packed extra clean underwear and got my morning run in. Who cares that I forgot to pack my every day clothing, right???

How’s your weekend ?

Ever pack your running gear and forget your real clothing?

Anyone celebrating December birthdays?

Running, Swimming and Father’s Day

That pretty much sums up our weekend!

Lilly finished her swimming lessons Saturday morning and she’s moving on to the next level (in the fall). Though it was only her first swimming lesson, we saw a big improvement in her confidence in the water.

Later Saturday, we went to a birthday party (it’s birthday season right now…that’s what happens when you become friends with people who are on maternity leave at the same time as you – #allthebirthdayparties). It was great, we were outside by a lake. The bugs weren’t bad, the kids played some games and even swam in the lake! Brrr!!! I got in up to my knees as I didn’t have time to locate my bathing suit.

We celebrated Father’s Day Saturday night with a BBQ dinner which was more like “how many veggies can you fit on your plate” kinda meal. That’s what happens when you are married to a vegan 😉 I was wanting to make home-made burgers but with the busy day we had, we all had sausages of various kinds!

Roasted parsnips, carrots and asparagus. Onions and mushrooms, spinach salad with strawberries, tangerines and nuts. Chicken feta and spinach sausage for the girls … Sai had a vegan one.

I was planning on going for a run after we got the girls to bed but was feeling lazy. Eventually, I got a little boost and headed out for a 6k run. You’d think I’d make my running routes easy since they have been so hard lately but nope…I decided to run some long inclines and even ran up my “hill repeat” hill THE WHOLE WAY! Apparently, my fitness isn’t too bad! It doesn’t matter that I walked once I arrived at the top of this hill, does it 😉

sat run june 20

It was another hard run but felt so good. When I arrived at home, I still had to do a 2 minute 10 second plank since I forgot to do it first thing in the morning. After running 6k I figured it would be okay. Well…..never plank in front of your husband.

Within the first few seconds he said “should your bum be THAT high?”. So of course I lowered my butt/pelvis towards the ground more. Then at the end he says “shouldn’t you be controlling your breathing?”. Once I collapsed on the floor (2:11) and caught my breath, I looked at him and said “Why don’t you give it a try?” and his response was “nope, I’m eating my ice cream”.

Sunday was supposed to be spent in the garden and mowing the lawn but it rained and RAINED and RAINED! As I write this a large swimming pool in my driveway is filling up! Awesome for puddle jumping. Then after breakfast I remembered that I should get planking before the day got away from me. Just before I was about to “assume the plank position” I looked up what time I should be doing – just for clarification, ya know! Guess what????????? It was REST DAY!!!!! I cried inside – complete happiness!!!!

How was your weekend?

Did you celebrate Father’s Day?

Anyone run, swim or bike this weekend?

Happy Birthday (today) to my husband!

Birthday boy!

On to Citizenship….

What does it mean to be a citizen? Is it just a place where you live? Is it who you are? Does it define you?

I’m a proud Canadian, and believe that {almost} everyone is proud of where they come from.. My daughters are Canadian and British citizens – so many opportunities lie ahead for them.

It’s been a long time coming, but I got to experience something not every Canadian gets to do. I was a witness at a swearing-in ceremony. It was for my husband, Sai.

Some family photo’s and funny bloopers:

Citizenship 1

Oh the faces that were made today…. 🙂

As I watched him take an oath my heart melted just a little more for this man.

He is now a dual citizen just like our girls.

{I’m the odd one out now, lol}

Citizenship 2

Someone’s little hands got in my way…good thing it was her birthday 🙂

We are so lucky to have two beautiful children and to celebrate this day together.

O Canada…we stand on guard for thee…..

Welcome to Canada, Sai.

Happy Birthday Sweet Hilary

A full year gone by…just…like….that!

Hilary Elise

Hilary Elise – 7 hours old 🙂

Tears, laughter, joy, little sleep, lots of nursing, first smiles, coo’s, cuddling and moments of frustration.

Kisses on your head, your toes, your hands and poking your face, Lillian couldn’t get enough of you.

hilary first months

Then sitting up, crab crawling and following your BIG sister around with such love it was oozing out of you.

You are such a sweet little girl who loves to dance, play with her big sister, talk, discover how to play with toys and be outside.

I wouldn’t change anything this past year…okay, maybe just a little more sleep and Daddy home all the time. I will miss our days together, lunches with no one else around, taking you running to see if you’ll sleep …. when really, I know you just want to look at the world around you.

Most of all, I’ll just miss spending all my time with you.

I love you sweet Hilary Elise.

Happy 1st Birthday.

Hilary’s 11 month update here

*12 month update to come next week*

Five Things Friday

This Elf 4 Health challenges has opened my eyes a little:

1. Unroll.Me – fantastic app/website that un-subscribes you from any/all email list you want. Look it up!

2 – a: When your body is stressed out it will take the good out of you. I need intense workouts 1-2 days of the week. I just need to run, don’t get me wrong the yoga, walking and climbing extra stairs this week was nice but I just need some fast paced workout. Sure happy I have a soccer game tomorrow night and I am planning on packing my running gear for work on Monday.

2 – b: The girls are in their beds and I’ve got to clean the house, prep more for the party, do the typical dishes/laundry and in between all that, I plan on doing a few rounds of squats, sit-ups, jumping-jacks, my new bird-dog move, tricep dips, and russian twists. This should be interesting and I’m going to time it on my watch to see how long I end up “working out”.  #FallintoFitness30DayChallenge.

Other things…..

3. I spent quality time with my biggest girl today…wrote a letter to Santa, made cup cakes, cake and other food for Hilary’s party tomorrow. We also did some crafts for Hilary’s party …. party favours … polka dot theme.

4. I don’t like planning children’s birthday parties. Totally thought I’d be all over it but in reality I don’t love it. To be fair, my husband is away and was away for Lilly’s party last June, so I’m doing it all on my own. Not fun 😦 Oh well, the good news is that Sai will be home for Hilary’s party tomorrow and I’ve got some good vegan and non-vegan eats. Keeping it simple for my own sanity.

5. The next week is going to be intense (Sat to Sat): birthday party, soccer game, Lilly’s soccer, I start work, personal event happening, I’m back at work and I travel for work two days next week, Sai is away….oh man, I am already looking forward to next Friday! HA!

What’s happening in your world?

Any Black Friday purchases?

Weekend events happening?
