Tested Tough Columbia Clothing

When I was a kid/youth growing up I had many items made by Columbia: jackets, ski pants and their head to toe old fashion yellow rain suit. I used that all the time as an outdoor ed instructor until it felt apart beyond repair. I loved their stuff so I was really excited to test out some new clothing recently.

Last month I was approached by Columbia Canada to review some clothing and participate in Mud Hero Halifax, however the timing wasn’t right and I couldn’t do the event. I’ve done Mud Hero a few years back and had a blast so was disappointed when I couldn’t participate. Even though I couldn’t do it, they still provided some clothing for me to review!

Shimmering Light Racerback Tank (Blue/Green)

I put this tank on right away and loved how soft the fabric felt. Even my girls thought it was “so soft” too. It’s really comfortable and I enjoy wearing during yoga or hiking…actually, just around the house a lot too. It’s perfect for our hot summer days we are having lately.

Facts: It’s 94% polyester / 6% elastane jacquard, Inner Bra: 86% polyester, 14% elastane,
Outer Bra: 94% polyester, 6% elastane. It has OMNI-WICK® High-Performance Wicking Fabric {Moisture-wicking fabric moves perspiration away from the skin to dry quickly on the surface}, 4-way comfort stretch and is an active fit.

Shimmering Light Tank (Pink)

This by far is my favourite item. I’ve worn it to work, on the weekends and out walking. It’s super light and comfortable. I love that I can wear it with a skirt for work or shorts on the weekend. The open back is my favourite and I like that the opening is big enough but doesn’t show my bra. I may have worn this shirt once a week (okay twice sometimes) since I got it. I seriously love it.

Women’s Titan Peak Short

These shorts did not disappoint. Before kids we used to go paddling and camping a lot…something we are trying (albeit slowly)…or wanting to get back into. These shorts would be perfect for both. Again, I’ve worn them to work, walking, while coaching soccer, hiking and just every day. These have been another staple this summer, are super light, great for traveling in the car to PEI last week and dried quickly when I got them wet. The pockets stood out with the bright coloured zip and the belt was a bonus.

Facts: “This lightweight and technical performance Titanium short is crafted of 4-way comfort stretch fabric with built in Omni-Shield™ advanced repellency and Omni-Shade™ UPF 50 sun protection. Designed with the serious thru-hiker in mind, the flattering Titan Peak will become your go-to short this summer”.

Vent N Vent Slip {Shoe}

These poor shoes! I originally requested a size 8.5 since that’s what I’ve been wearing in shoes lately but they didn’t fit. I had to send them back for a size 8 which was no problem for Columbia (thank you) but there was another mix up and they sent size 8.5 again. We got it all sorted and I’m glad we did as they are really comfortable shoes not to mention lightweight and cute. I don’t own anything like them so I figured why not give them a try. I like how simple they look but fun at the same time. They are really easy to slip on and kept me comfortable all day. I’m a big fan of blue but this is my first pair of “blue shoes” and that I can wear them to work, at home or out and about.

Facts: “Classic slip-on styling and aptly placed midsole vents turn this casual, comfy low top into a warm-weather style statement. The women’s Vulc N Vent Slip-On Shoe features a soft, washed-canvas upper, a vented midsole and sockliner to keep fresh air flowing underfoot, and a soft, full-length EVA-foam foot-bed for cushy, all-day comfort”. Weight: 6.8oz or 200g.

Lots of great stuff from Columbia that I’m looking forward to wearing this summer in pretty much any atmosphere. Thank you Columbia Canada for providing the clothing and shoes, all opinions are my own.

What I’ve Been Wearing Lately #SweatBetter

I’m not a big fashionista or anything but I would say that I do enjoy some fun workout gear and clothing. Having said that, I’ve been wearing a few new things lately on my runs, bike rides and just in general, every day.

If you follow me on Instagram, you might notice I’ve been sporting some new things like the Polar A300 Activity Tracker. I’m also recently wore the grey Under Armour Run tank on a hot afternoon run (below). The word”run”on the front is reflective (safety bonus) and Under Armour HeatGear® long shorts.

July 2nd Run Polar

I’m a big fan of longer shorts to avoid any chaffing because let’s be honest – it happens. And it happens to women’s legs more then not! The shorts are super comfortable and I’m thinking I want to go back to SportChek and get another pair so I can run in them more then my short-shorts.

The Polar A300 has been a fun addition and I’m still in the process of figuring it all out. Just when I think I know what I’m doing, I hit another button or sync it to the app on my phone and wham-o …it does even more! I’ll talk more about that next week.

Even though I took two weeks off running, it didn’t mean I wasn’t still active. Between playing soccer, coaching, going to yoga class and getting out on my bike, I still got to wear a few more things!

When the Nike Free RN sneakers arrived I had to wear them to work as I couldn’t just leave them at home to sit all day. They fit like a glove! I was super nervous about running in them as I didn’t think they’d give me enough support. As well as, I’m super cautious about getting injured. After wearing them at work for a few days and around the house, I knew they would become my go-to shoes when I’m not in sandals this summer.

Anna S Wear to Work

They are super light weight and again, fit like a glove. I finally tested them out on a run recently and was really surprised (I’m not just saying that). As I started my run, I couldn’t even hear them on the pavement. You know when you hear runners hitting the ground really hard in a race, that’s all I could think of and how quiet these were. They felt great on the road, then in the woods/trails, crusher dust trail and then back on the road again. I love the colours too.

A while back I wore my Nike Run “There Is No Finish Line” tank which is a bit more of a muscle shirt and something I’m not used to wearing. I did like how comfortable it was and enjoyed the change in style for my workouts. Plus it can show off my fun-coloured sports bras underneath which isn’t something I’d normally do either 😉

There is No Finish Line.jpgThat’s what I’ve been wearing lately during my workouts. It’s so nice to finally have summer weather to wear lots of tanks and get new summer tan lines and a few more freckles, ha ha! I’ll share a little more next week.

All opinions in this blog post are my own thoughts and experiences. These products have been provided as part of the summer SportChek Ambassador program.  Thank you SportChek!

PRO Compression Socks Review

In January I was given a pair of PRO Compression socks to review and I’ve finally had the chance to wear them a few times and give a review.

First off, these socks are AMAZING. And I’m not just saying that. I put them on one morning not to run but just to try them out and keep my legs warm on a cold winter day. My first thought was, “how am I going to put these tight socks over my big legs”? I’m not a skinny girl at all and have good size calf muscles so I was a little worried. My next thought was “are these going to cut off circulation to my feet” ? The only compression socks I wore was during my second pregnancy – yeah I had to wear some knee-high stockings for swelling and they worked like a charm.

PRO Compression Socks on not so skinny legs - they fit!

PRO Compression Socks on not so skinny legs – they fit!

As I was putting my PRO Compression socks on I seriously thought they would not fit me … but they did! I went on with my day; nursed Hilary, packed her up and went out for groceries. When I got back home an hour and a half later I had totally forgotten that I had compression socks on my legs.

Happy running feet

Happy running feet

Since they are made for running, I’ve went out for a run on another cold winter day in Nova Scotia with my dog, Maclean. I put them on and was a little worried that my sneakers were too big for me as the socks fit nice and snug compared to my normal running socks. Once I got running I, yet again, forgot that I had them on until 1/2 way through my run. Later that night my thighs were tight and getting sore but my calf muscles were fine.

I thought I would give them one more test.

My late night workout

My late night workout

I started the 30 Day Shred workout at home and knew exactly what I was in for – a physically rough day after this intense workout.  Nope, not the case with my calf muscles.

What I like about theme:

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Great for every day use (especially in cold winter)
  • Fit your foot and leg as per the sizing
  • Not just meant for skinning legs 🙂
  • Fun colours and prints
  • Easy to buy online

I would totally recommend these for running or any intense workout you may do plus to wear after your workouts to help recover quickly.  I am looking forward to using them as I increase my distance outside and as I push myself to a new PR *hopefully* later this year.

Would I spent $50 plus shipping on these ? Yes, I would. Plus they have pretty cool colours and prints to choose from. I love the Marathon Purple or the  Pink Argyle.

We believe in pushing ourselves, and we believe in giving ourselves a break, too. We’re all about the rush of endorphins and the thrill of the challenge.
