Happy 4th Birthday Sweet Lillian

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday dear Lillian,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!

Lilly – you are the world to me (so is your sister). Four years ago, Daddy and I had no idea you where going to join us early. It was Sunday June 13th and my water broke at 10:30 pm in bed and I freaked out! I can laugh now but I wasn’t then. Your Daddy kept me pretty calm and told me everything would be just fine.

Everything happened so fast we had little time to think. When you came out your Daddy told me “It’s a Girl” and I cried. You were perfect but your ear was bent over. I thought that if that’s all that is wrong with our baby who was 4 weeks early then I can handle that. The nurse then flipped your ear back and said the cartilage wasn’t formed yet and it was just bent.

We had our challenges getting you to nurse and once again, Daddy got me through it (with some help from medical professionals over 2 months). You may have come 4 weeks early but you were a strong little one.

You are one of the most caring little girls I’ve ever met. You love to try new things, love to laugh and love your family and friends dearly {Mommy could learn a few things from you – and I have}. Your smile is beautiful, your personality is hilarious and I can’t wait to see what you will do with your life.

We are so lucky to have you in our lives. Don’t ever change 🙂

Happy 4th Birthday to you, Sweet Lillian.

I love you to the moon and back.

The Joy of Children (not just your own)

When you plan on having children you never expect the outcomes that will happen besides sleepless nights, dirty diapers, spit up everywhere and toys crunching under your feet in the middle of the day OR night!

What I wasn’t really expecting but has developed into this amazing group of friends/families and kids was a play group from our prenatal class! There was 7 of us in our prenatal class in March of 2010 and we try to get the whole group together once or twice a year which is always great. We also had a smaller group of 4 that got together regularly during that first year.

Four Christmases

What amazes me and what I wasn’t prepared for was the love that these kids have for each other. They simply LOVE one another. I feel very lucky to witness it and be apart of this little group of friends. This is what having kids is all about.

As a child I loved Christmas until I got older and it changed. I’m not talking about Santa, I’m talking about when my Grandmother was no longer with us and then 2 years later on Boxing Day we lost my Grandfather. Christmas was just another day spent with family, giving and receiving gifts. It was lovely but it wasn’t the same.

I find myself more excited about Christmas as our girls get older and because of their friends. The excitement in their eyes, the joy in writing a letter to Santa and then receiving one back and the magic that sits int he palm of their hands is the spirit of Christmas (to me). I love that Lilly has had these friends since they day they were all born and hope she get’s to spend many more years playing, growing and celebrating Christmas with them.

Happy Christmas Eve!

Love at First Sight (or Sound)

Last night was your typical night for us. I picked up Lilly from day care, the girls played while I got dinner ready, we ate, I bathed the girls and put them to bed. Lilly helped me make our treat bags for Halloween by counting out the candies and putting them in the bag. She didn’t even ask to have one! Towards the end she got really generous with the candies….lucky treat-or-treaters 🙂

Halloween making treat bags

Late last night when the girls were asleep and I was trying to fall asleep and my husband arrived home around midnight. I heard the sound of his car backing in our driveway. Then our main door opened and I could barely hear his footsteps coming up the stairs. In between hearing his car and the door open I had butterflies in my stomach.

Oh, Love does funny things!

Hilary had woken about 10 minutes before this and was now sleeping beside me or so I thought. As Sai came into the bedroom I heard a thump, thump, thump. It was Maclean’s tail hitting the floor, she was happy Sai was home. When he climbed in bed Hilary instantly woke up and clapped her hands because Daddy was home.

Oh, Love does funny things!

We got Hilary back in her bed around 1:15 am and Lilly got up at 3:30 am to pee. She still didn’t know Sai was home and I managed to get her back in her room without noticing Daddy in bed!!!

Just after 7 this morning Lilly came in our room asking to go pee again and still didn’t notice Daddy yet! While in the bathroom I asked if she could climb in my bed and keep my side warm. When she got to the bed she laughed and was so excited to see her Daddy!

Oh, Love does funny things!

A sound or the sight of someone you love can sure make you feel great! Even for a dog!

Do you get excited when your loved one comes home?

How do your children react when their mom/dad comes home after being away for a while?

Do you think animals can love a human?

What am I Teaching my Girls?

Night times are by far the worst time of the day for me. Two girls, two different needs but the main goal is to get them both in bed AND asleep! Ha, yeah right!

One night I had bathed both girls and was nursing Hilary just before putting her down. I always ask Lilly to read a book in the doorway of my bedroom so I can see her from Hilary’s bedroom. She loves to read books and is usually pretty quiet.

A few weeks ago I “caught” Lilly reading a magazine while wearing her Daddy’s t-shirt as pajama’s. I walked in an asked her what she was doing? She said “reading”. (of course, silly me).  She was reading one of Daddy’s magazine’s….Canadian Running.

So I decided that night to look through her “chosen book” and each time we saw a women running she would say “Look a Mommy running!” Apparently I have taught her that all Mommies run 🙂 And she did say look a Daddy running too but I was more proud of her calling them all Mommies and associating them with running.

I guess she has good role model’s in her life.
