Sneaking in a few more KM in 2018

I’ve been trying to sneak in a few more running kilometres the last week or so. Nothing major – just a handful of 5k’s here and there.

We survived the holidays, enjoyed some much needed family time with LOTS of good food and laughs. I even packed up the tree today! Kinda early for me to pack Christmas in but to be honest, I’m ready to move on from Christmas and have my house back to normal. (Well, as normal as it can be with two kids – we have sports gear EVERYWHERE not to mention toys and books …. but I love it).

We’ve had some crazy weather recently: -9c one day and then plus 9c the next day! Snow, rain, and now everything is frozen! I’ve barely used my #merrymill lately mainly because I’m running more with Carmacks but I have a feeling I’ll be using it more in the coming months.

I’ve reached my running goal for the year but still just enjoying some short runs to keep me active in between playing soccer and skiing!! We got in our first ski day last week and hoping to get there again before the girls are back to school!

Hard to believe that 2018 is almost done but you know what? I think I’m ready for a new year! Lots of fun adventures ahead!

I’m super excited to become a Endurance Tap Ambassador for 2019! If you haven’t tried Endurance Tap…aka…amazing maple syrup – oh I mean, fuel (maple syrup, ginger and sea salt) for your runs/rides etc. Keep an eye out in the new year!

I’m also returning to Tiux as an Ambassador – my favourite go to compression socks. Still wearing them, still loving them. You can use ANNASTIUX for 20% of your order!

I’m working on some year end posts that will likely be posted early in 2019. Stay tuned for some wrap up posts: 2018 running and mileage totals!

Anyone else getting in a few more km/miles before the end of 2018?

Have you set your 2019 goals yet? ) I haven’t.

Any New Year’s Eve plans?

As always, you can find me posting on IG at “pipersrun”.

Oh Hey! I’m still running!

Hey there!

I’ve been running but not blogging lately. We’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks and I thought about writing some blog posts but in the end, I took a bit of a social media break. I even logged out of my apps on my phone *gasp*!!!!!!!! It was WONDERFUL!

I’ve been running a lot, playing soccer, swimming a bit in the OCEAN and lakes, doing a little yoga and cycling while on vacation with my family. We went to the beautiful Prince Edward Island and swam in the ocean during our intense heat and humidity.

Brackely Beach Pipers Run

We also hit up the Butterfly house, visited with family, had an amazing even with friends and their kids. I ran super early in the mornings … ha ha okay, not super early. However, 7 am or 8 am runs while on vacation is early while the rest of the family was still asleep.

We hate so much ice cream! SO. MUCH. ICE CREAM!!! I might have hit my quota for ice cream this summer…. *might*. We have a list….oh yes, a list of ice cream places we wanted to go to and we’ve hit all 7 of them. Looks like we’re going to have to add on to that list because summer isn’t over.

What else? I’ve been reading more then I ever have. The girls are doing a summer reading program with our library so I figured I’d sign up. I’m not a big novel reader but I’ve found some good ones to read. Ones that I can’t put down which is nice!

summer reading

This past weekend the four of us went to Valley Yoga Festival. The girls went to the kids class and my husband and I went to the other class – his first time! It was great! Also, coaching soccer is wrapping up this week so life is going to be a lot less chaotic in our house!!

What else….oh I signed up for two fall races! I’ll share those with you soon but I’m in week 4 of half marathon training with my husband. Yup, we’re running a race together this fall 🙂

I’ll start blogging about my half marathon training soon!

How’s your summer going?

Beach or Lake?

Training for a fall race?

April & May Goals

Each month, I set goals and try hard to accomplish them but sometimes life just happens and you can’t accomplish them.

My whole family got hit hard with the flu and we were all out for a 7-10 day period. That meant lots of sleeping and doing zero activity other then walking our dog.  Life happens and you move on, you dust off the dirt and keep moving forward. I did not meet my April goals but didn’t give up on trying, that’s for sure!

April Goals Pipers Run

  1. Run 80 km. Nope – 77 km of running, so close! I wasn’t keeping track each week so had no idea I was 3 km off until May 1st.
  2. Cycle 100 km – nope. I managed 53 km.
  3. Play outside with my kids – Yes and No. While we were sick we did nothing outdoors except one 25 minute bike ride in the freezing cold. I though fresh air would be good and they were pumped to get on their bikes. None of us lasted long.
  4. Start/Finish book – Nope. I started a book and thought I’d finish it when I was home sick for a week but I couldn’t even read!
  5. Strength Training 2 x week – Not really. I do an upper body workout with some weights when I’m on my bike but that was only 3 times in the whole month.
  6.  Continued PT exercises – Yes, I did this! They are a stable in my workouts now, except after long runs. No PT after running for hours, okay 2 hours. My body just doesn’t like the timing.

Not a great month reaching my goals but I’m not disappointed. Okay, I’m disappointed that I missed the 80 km of running by 3 km…but if I was paying attention to my accumulative distance I would have run 3k on the last day of the month to get it in.

May Goals!

May Goals (2)

I’m keeping it real simple this month. Run my half marathon on May 20th, take my bike off my indoor trainer so I can ride outside with my family and get in more strength training.

Have you set goals for May?

Did you meet all your April goals?

Are you a go big or go home goals or small and simple?

Jan 29th – Feb 4th Wrap Up

You’d hardly know it’s winter in Nova Scotia today as it’s raining and we’ve lots all the snow that fell last week! Last week’s workouts were a but of everything but no running!

Wrap Up

Monday Jan 29th:  Rest Day.

Tuesday:  20k Cycling – indoor trainer. The girls snuck in a 15 minute snowshoe at the end of the day while I walked Carmacks.

Wednesday: 30 minutes of Snowshoeing! Since we had a dump of snow, I walked Carmacks first thing in my snowshoes for 10 minutes. I also got out during my lunch break for 20 minutes.

Thursday (FEB): Skiing!!! It was an in-service day for my daughters and I had booked the day off work. We spent the whole morning skiing and it was awesome!

Friday 2nd: I took Friday as a rest day but still did my PT exercises and plank.

Saturday 3rd:  Skating. We’ve been battling head colds all week and my oldest wasn’t feeling great so we skipped morning basketball to sleep in. The girls really want to skate so I took them skating at a local arena. They had a blast!

As mentioned, I started my plank challenge – plank every day in February. I usually do this before bed, mainly because I’ve forgotten about it during the day time….but I’m getting it done!

Sunday 4th: I desperately wanted to run outside today but the stars did not align. I thought about getting on the treadmill but just didn’t have the energy after getting the girls to bed (I usually workout at night).

After getting the girls to bed I decided I’d do an hour of yoga but got distracted by my bicycle puzzle that was under the couch. Apparently, I just needed something to be distracted by and got so into it that I finished it!

I got in 30 minutes of yoga and some PT exercises! It’s the puzzle cool, worth it!

How was your week?

Did you take in the Superbowl? (I didn’t, shhh!)

What’s the weather like where you live?

I don’t always post on here but you can find me posting daily over at Instagram
