February & March Goals

Have you ever got to the last day of a month and had a bit of a reality check that the next month is the following day? I mean, you know the month is ending and a new one is starting but you just can fathom that the next day is March…no longer February! That’s how I felt last week.

February was a very active and busy month and I managed to hit all my goals!

February Goals

Plank Every Day – DONE, DONE and DONE! Though this was a good challenge, I found myself annoyed some nights when I had forgotten to do my plank. I’d crawl out of bed, plank and then go to bed. 28 days of planking accomplished!

Stronger Hips/Obliques: Definitely worked hard at this one and have passed a few tests at physio but still have to work at this one to get back to 100%.

Cycle 100 km: WOOHOOO, I did it! 105.98 km for the month. I was kinda hoping to do more then that and could have but my schedule just didn’t align to make it happen. I’d love to cycle 1000 km this year and really though it was doable until I realized in the summer months I might not be able to pull off 100 km outdoors. I’m still going to work towards my 1000 km and see what I can pull off.

Ski, Ski, Ski: We got in four trips to the local ski hill. Three with the girls and one by myself on my lunch break. Yeah, I went on my lunch break after a meeting I had nearby was scheduled right before lunch. You don’t miss an opportunity like that, do you?

Olympics: We watched a tone of Olympics and then had Olympic withdrawl. My girls woke up a few days after the Olympics and asked if they could watch it, ha! Poor girls! They loved learning about new sports and watching the athletes compete. Only a week or so until the Paralympics starts!

With a great month behind us, I had not really thought about what I wanted to do in March. I knew I wanted to get in another great month of cycling and start to increase my running but other then that, no great plans or goals.

March Goals:

PR March Goals

For March, I’m going to keep it slightly simple. The girls and I are off for March Break and I’m planning to do a few different activities with them. Reading a book is actually a real challenge for me. Not because I can’t read or don’t enjoy it, I just don’t make time for it….and I can’t read while I run on a treadmill or ride my bike like I can watch TV.

Running 50 km will be a good challenge for me since I really haven’t been running much. I’m hoping I can keep up my cycling as part of cross training for my half marathon. Let’s see what March brings!

Did you reach all your goals in February?

Do you have any goals for March?

Tuning into the Paralympics next week?

Half Way Through February

This month is slipping by rather quickly so I thought I’d do a short check-in post about my February goals.

These are the goals I set:

February Goals

So far so good. I’m on track with all of them but slacking a little on the skiing one. We’ve had other weekend commitments and weather that hasn’t cooperated with the days we could ski…so that one is a work in progress (but I have a plan).

I’ve planked every day, usually before bed. I’ve been keeping accountable on IG stories each day sharing my plank times. I’m not going for a specific time but at least one minute each day.

Week 1

Week 2: Forgot to take save a picture on Day 10. I messed up my dates, so Saturday 1:10 is Feb 10th. Feb 12 (1:04) is the 11th and 1:37 Day 12 is the 12th. Photo fails, good thing I write it down!

Plank Week 2

I’ve cycled 60.56 km so far and feeling like I’ll reach my 100 km for the month. Though running mileage isn’t a goal this month, I had a great treadmill run and FINALLY got out with my running buddy, Krystol Friday night. I know, wild Friday night!!!

Lots of PT exercises happening every day. Sometimes I do them all, sometimes I just do 2-3 of them. My hip and obliques are getting strong but not 100% still. It’s a work in process.

Also……loving the Olympics! Canada already has 16 medals! Our girls are super into the Olympics and learning about new to them sports like Curling, skeleton and speed skating.

How’s your February going?

Are you glued to the Olympics or watch it occasionally?

Are you doing a monthly challenge? How’s it going?

I don’t post daily on the blog but you can find me almost daily over at Instagram

January & February Goals

First off, today is #BellLetsTalk Day in Canada. This means that every time you text, share on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat), long distance phone calls on mobile and home phones, Bell will donate 5¢ towards Mental Health initiatives in Canada. ANYONE can use the #bellletstalk hashtag – PLEASE do today. Join the conversation!

I’ll likely be tweeting, texting, sharing more on social media today because mental health is important to me. With friends and family members who live with depression, anxiety etc., it’s one thing I can do to help. Have the conversation, not just today but every day.

Back to my original post for today.

January Goals

Though I set my January Goals rather late, they were simple goals for me to focus on. Simple and easy goals is were it’s at for me this year. Maybe later on I’ll set some other goals but I’m taking it month at a time.

  1. Stay Active. I feel like I accomplished this. I ran, downhill skied, cross country skied, skated, cycled and went to yoga. Most of it was done with my daughters. Oh and we walked our dog A LOT!
  2. Go to Physio (sort out hip/obliques) – Yup, weekly PT appointments are my thing now. Seeing some progress but still in some pain with my obliques.
  3. Enjoy time with family. – Yes! We had a busy month from skiing, learning how to skates again, read a lot of books, watched some movies and Netflix (got the girls hooked on the old Full House), we even got sick together.

February Goals

February will be about challenging myself a little bit. I want to plank every day with no time commitment. I’ll continue with my physio and strengthening my hip/obliques. I want to cycle 100km since I’m not running high mileage and loving being on my bike for 45-60 minutes.

I also want to ski as much as we can and would love to take my girls night skiing but all the stars have to align for that one! And the Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to watch Canada (and other countries) at the Winter Olympics. I think one of the things I like the most about the Olympics is being able to expose my children to multiple sports. They can watch the athletes compete individually and as part of a team.

Did you reach any goals in January?

Are you going to watch the Olympics?

Do you have any goals planned for February?

Don’t forget to text, tweet, share with the hashtag #bellletstalk today!

February Mileage & March Goals

Oh February, you were a month of little running, massive snow storms (3 in 7 days) and some adventures with our girls. My focus in February was to keep things simple which I feel I accomplish. I did have some smaller goals:

Run 50 km

Ba ha ha ha!!!! I was no where near 50 km and this is how I feel about it:

LOL image.jpg

I’m 100% fine with not running 50k and just laughing at myself. I was so desperate to get back to consistent running that I set a simple goal of 50k. I’m not sure when it happened but I just didn’t feel the need to meet my goal. The 23 km that I did run were great and I know I have many more months to get in my running miles.

Weekly Yoga or Barre class

I didn’t make it to any Barre classes but managed two yoga classes. One day when I got home from work I was taking my yoga mat out of my car and my oldest daughter said “yoga or barre class, Mom?” I laughed and said that I went to yoga class. I love that she interesting in what I’ve been up to.

Take advantage of the snow:

The plan was to  cross country ski, downhill skiing, snowshoe, skate and just play outside with my kids. We did manage to play outside a lot: downhill skiing with the girls one day, snowshoeing during our big dump of snow and skating at the Oval with the girls. No cross country skiing and time is limited with all the snow melting.

I also had 4 soccer games (speed work), cycling twice (for 40 minutes each) on my new trainer and went bowling with the family. My arm hurt for a few days after.

In a completely other area of my life – after having a lose tooth for two months, Lilly pulled out her tooth on National Tooth Fairy Day (Feb 28th)!!!!  She was SO determined to pull her tooth out the other night. There were a few tears, some laughter, a few “take my photo Mom” and pure happiness once it was out!

March Goals:

Okay March….we’re going to get a long just fine. I’m a little disappointed that mother nature has allowed for all the snow we got in February to melt away so I’m still hoping for a little more snow to come.

The plan this month is to:

  • Increase days per week of running.
  • Continue with soccer, yoga and barre.
  • Ski as many times as we can (hello melting snow).

My goals are pretty basic but something to work towards and maybe accomplish or not. I think once I get signed up for a race I’ll be more focused on running and following a training plan again.

How was your month of February?

Do you have any goals for March?

Any fun weekend plans?
