Manitoba Hemp Hearts Review & Giveaway (US & CAN)

For the last month or so I’ve been adding these little hemp hearts to almost everything I eat! Manitoba Hemp Hearts to be exact!

I add them to smoothies, yogurt and granola, salads, you name it and I usually add them into the meal! I’m not going to lie, I was a little unsure before I tried them as I thought they would be really grainy.

hemp hearts

After trying them the first time, I actually really liked them. They are soft and taste good. Not grainy or hard like I thought they might be. I liked them so much that I went and bought a big bag from our local grocery store.

I plan on using them in some other foods I make: banana bread, no bake energy bites (I’ve altered my recipe and will share soon) and in the Oh She Glow’s granola bars I make. These are definitely a daily eat for me now.

What are hemp hearts?

Hemp Hearts are shelled hemp seeds.

Fun facts:

  • At the ‘heart’ of all our hemp foods is the Hemp Heart (aka raw shelled hemp seed).
  • Hemp Hearts contain 10 grams of omegas per 30 gram serving
  • Hemp Hearts are a complete vegetarian protein
  • Hemp Hearts contain 10 grams of protein per 30 grams servings
  • Hemp Hearts are hypoallergenic
  • Hemp Hearts are Non-GMO Project Verified

You can check out their website at Manitoba Hemp Hearts and find recipes there too!

Tranquil Force – Fitness Gear With Flair Giveaway

I’d love to say that recently I had the opportunity to review these pretty neat headbands from Alisha at Force but she sent them to me in the summer and well…it’s no longer summer. My apologies for not getting this post up. Having said that….I’ve got a few headbands to giveaway!

What I liked about them:

  • Comfortable (cozy)
  • Colourful
  • Easy to put on
  • Easy to wrap around wrist and use to wipe off sweat (I know, I know it’s not what it was made for but it worked)
  • My girls loved wearing them. Actually, come to thing of it, Lilly wears mine a lot!

Little H rocking out the headband!

I did have some challenges with it falling off my head. Granted I was going from running to jumping jacks to push ups and burpees when I tested them out. Also, I was too focused on keeping it folded and should have just opened it up fully to wear it – see below.

Thank you Alisha for providing this product for me to review. My apologies for taking beyond forever to get this post up.

AMRAP Review & Giveaway!

Recently I was given the opportunity to review AMRAP bars. The bars arrived the day after I was supposed to post the review…what can ya do?!??! Anyway, they arrived and I’ve managed to taste them all without reading anyone else’s review(s), not an easy thing to do.

AMRAP creates food that is 100% Paleo, gluten-free, GMO-free, dairy-free, and unprocessed. Raw whole foods, like almond chunks, are a top priority in our bars because we know from experience it is clean fuel that feeds our bodies’ daily activity the best. Our bars have an optimal research-based combination of good proteins and carbs for well-rounded athletes. Recommended for a meal supplement or replacement, and especially a pre or post-workout snack.

Piper’s Review:

I had three bars to test out: Almond & Honey, Fig and Cacao, and Cashew & Vanilla. I brought them to work as I thought they looked fairly large that I couldn’t eat all three at once…or even in three days. My co-worker, Melissa and I tested them out and this is what we thought.

AMRAP

Food Facts on the Fig & Cacao

Bar #1: Cashew & Vanilla (we actually tried this one last)

It wasn’t great. The vanilla tasted weird and neither one of us could figure out why. We both felt the texture was weird and had a rush of sweet like cake batter when you bit into it.

Bar #2: Almond & Honey (middle of the pack)

The smell was awesome as soon as we opened the packaging. The nuts were still crunchy and it wasn’t dense like other protein bars. It wasn’t heavy. We both loved this one.

Bar #3: Fig & Cacao (we tried this one first)

It was good. You see all the ingredients lists and it didn’t taste artificial. Another one for the win!

Overall: We both really liked the Almond & Honey and Fig & Cacao but felt the Cashew & Vanilla just didn’t cut it for us. We’d both would buy these and recommend them.

They tasted home-made and didn’t look, feel or taste “processed”.

PR AMRAP

And now for the GIVEAWAYS…three of them!

Each winner will receive an 8-pack of AMRAP bards in a flavour of your choice (Fig Cacao, Almond Honey or Cashew Vanilla).

Running: Sneak It In

There has been a lot of “sneaking it in” over here these days………

5K “Runch” on Monday

Bummed out about my run.

Bummed out about my run.

Today:

Conference Call / Wall Sit….why not?!?!?!

And stair repeats on a rainy day {Tuesday}.

Wall Sit Sneak It In

I’m planning another “runch” – I just love this term…two of my favourite bloggers (Run Salt Run and Pirate Bobcat) have recently used it so I had to as well. Run + Lunch = runch 🙂

I’ll admit….right now I am not really feeling the motivation to run at lunch today. But I have all my gear and I’m going anyway. Will write more after I run.

PS – Don’t forget about my PRO Compression GIVEAWAY —> LINK HERE

~~~~~~~~~
As I was getting ready for my planned 5k, I knew I wasn’t feeling it but I got dressed anyway, I went outside anyway and I started my Garmin anyway. I started running and the wind was cold and strong against my body. I kept going one step at a time.
I decided to not run on the sidewalk that I’ve been running on lately and wanted to test out the trails. With it being Day 10 “Run a Trail” in the Run This Year challenges I am doing….I thought why not.
They say…..Run a Trail … so I did! Pavement, dirt trail and snow! YUP, we still have snow in Nova Scotia!
Run On Trail Day 10
I ran as far as I could on the snow and decided to turn back around. It was a beautiful day and I started focusing on my pace and pushing it a little. I wasn’t hoping for a Personal Best or Personal Record. BUT, this happened:
{In KM: 5:42; 5:49; 5:50; 5:45: 5:37}
New PB Anna
My last PB was 29:34 last Friday – you can read about it here. However it was a hilly little 5k and today’s run was flat. Flat-As-Can-Be! This is the fastest 5k I have ever run since I started running around 10 years ago. Yes, I’ve been running on and off for 10 years – more in the last 5-6 years. My absolute best time was 29:16 in Halifax at a “Run for the Cure” event when I was around 22/23, I think.
So, I’m pretty pumped today!
Runners – how many years have you been running?
Does anyone “Runch” ? (Run at lunch)
Do you sneak in a little workout while at work? Desk yoga, stretching, walking meetings, lifting weights, stand up desk?
