Treats, Run & Fire Weekly Wrap Up

November has been an extremely busy month and it’s only the 6th! We are still having some summer like temperatures but fall feels like it’s trying to roll in. The pretty leaves are all gone and the warm temps just don’t feel right.

Last week wasn’t the best week of workouts as I was on the road a lot with work. That will be the theme until mid December sadly. I need to be creative in getting in my runs and any other workouts.

Last week’s workouts:

  • Monday: Rest Day.
  • Tuesday: Halloween – lots of walking.
  • Wednesday: Melissa Bender Quick Core workout.
  • Thursday: 5k with Carmacks.
  • Friday: Rest Day.
  • Saturday: 3k run with Carmacks before 7am.
  • Sunday: Leisurely 6k bike ride + Soccer Game.

Halloween: Social Butterfly, Super women and Old Lady Lilly!

Confession – I’m eating way too many Halloween treats. Anyone else? I am however enjoying my runs with Carmacks. He is doing awesome running with me or should I say I’m doing a good job of running with him. I ran’t run fast enough for him right now but some days he has me pushing my pace way more then I want to be and that’s okay. My husband had him out yesterday for another 5k so he’s starting to rack up the mileage. I want to try and do a longer run with him and see how he does but it’s still a little too warm for him to go longer then 5k – at least, that’s how I feel.

(TMI coming up). I’ve gotta figure out how do my long runs with him and managed water for both of us as well as poop bags which aren’t fun to run with. There aren’t too many garbage bins around to drop the bags off and I’m not going to leave a bag of dog poop behind. I have lots to learn about running long distances with him as when I ran with our other dog Maclean, we kept it to 5k.

This week I also tried a Melissa Bender core workout I recently saw online. Not easy but so effective. I worked this past weekend but it was fun work. I graphically recorded an AGM for a female leadership group around sport, recreation and physical activity. You can check it out on Instagram. It was a long day driving and standing but I took advantage of my new Tiux socks to keep my legs happy. [Tiux promo code: ANNASTIUX for 20% off at Tiux]

We got out for one last bike ride as a family. I keep saying “last ride” but each week we managed to get out again. However, this week required gloves and the girls faces were cold but they still loved it.

We ended off the weekend with a bonfire dinner for the girls. It went over pretty good until Hilary had a meltdown over her spider hot dog – apparently she really hates hot dogs! At least the fire was fun! The time change took a little toll on Hilary as she was up before the birds and cranky by 5pm…fire burning time. Oh well, sometimes as parents we learn things last minute – you know….good Ah – ha! moments!

I didn’t get to watch the NYC Marathon but WOW, just WOW. I’m loving all the hype of Shalene’s win. No, I’m not American but it’s awesome watching a women win and break a record for her country. I’m linking up today with the Weekly Wrap hosted by HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin.

How was your weekend?

Did you take in the NYC marathon?

Did the time change affect your family?

October Catch-Up

October was  filled with running, soccer, yoga and barre for me. Then swimming lessons and gymnastics class for the girls, which they love!. Time with family, working a lot, traveling for work more and of course Halloween!

Running Mileage

For just coming off an injury/getting it diagnosed, I’m happy that I was just able to be running again. I played 2 soccer games, went to 2 yoga classes and 2 barre classes. It wasn’t a very motivating month trying to get back into running/working out but I’m feeling like I’m doing better.

Plans for November:

I want to run more consistently which means getting back on the treadmill when my husband’s working and potentially getting back into running at lunches. I do miss my “runches”. Treadmill running isn’t all that bad as I can catch up on some shows I’ve missed throughout the week. Who am I kidding, I love the fact that I have a treadmill at home and can run when I can’t get outside.

Soccer has been a lot of fun too. When I get on the field my mind is completely lost in the moment which I was missing with running and yoga lately. Honestly, I can’t get my head wrapped around the fact that it’s November! NOVEMBER folks!!!!!!!

Halloween:

Birthday cake, birthday present and a party-goer (not in the photo). The girls loved Halloween and I’m now officially sick of chocolates, candies and chips. Okay, I’m not sick of starburst but everything else I am.

Pumpkin People

Each year we check out the pumpkin people in the valley but happened to leave it to the last weekend this year. Obviously, we had to stop at this one so the girls could be just like their father.

And then even more like their father – British 🙂 Funny enough, he was working that day so they pretended to be at work with him.

Do you have anything planned this month?

Are you starting to think about the holidays yet? (I’m trying not to for at least another week or so).

Runners – are you in off season mode now?

Halloween Workouts – Tricks on You

Oh Halloween, you are here again. I have a love-hate relationship with Halloween. I love seeing the kids all dressed up and loved it as a kid but sometimes I just don’t like it. I can’t pin-point what it is but I’m just being honest.

Having said that, we’re taking on the “Frozen” theme for Halloween this year….well, it’s actually just taking over our lives in general – for real. I have more Frozen glitter all over my house….really, everywhere.

Let it go, Piper….Let It Go!

The girls are so excited to be Elsa and Anna, we’ve been practicing dancing and singing in costumes all week. I’m going to be Olaf since I have a costume from last year’s run…

1000 Kilometers PR

Since I’m sure you’ll have lots of trick-or-treaters, here is a workout from Suzi at Confessions of a Fitness Instructor. She has a printable workout and more “exercises vs costumes” for you to do. Let’s just say that hanging out with Elsa and Anna (Princesses) is going to have me doing a lot of “curtsy lunges” 🙂

Now, if you choose to eat some of your children’s candy {when they are not looking} you’re going to need to do some of these workouts:

I’m not saying if you eat a candy you have to workout to get rid of those calories but this is more of a fun way to enjoy eating those candies and working out! And yes…I’ll be eating some candy but I’m also hoping to get out for a run Saturday.

If you have a toddler and a baby this Halloween, you may want to check out an old post “How to Survive Halloween with a Toddler and Baby”.

Love at First Sight (or Sound)

Last night was your typical night for us. I picked up Lilly from day care, the girls played while I got dinner ready, we ate, I bathed the girls and put them to bed. Lilly helped me make our treat bags for Halloween by counting out the candies and putting them in the bag. She didn’t even ask to have one! Towards the end she got really generous with the candies….lucky treat-or-treaters 🙂

Halloween making treat bags

Late last night when the girls were asleep and I was trying to fall asleep and my husband arrived home around midnight. I heard the sound of his car backing in our driveway. Then our main door opened and I could barely hear his footsteps coming up the stairs. In between hearing his car and the door open I had butterflies in my stomach.

Oh, Love does funny things!

Hilary had woken about 10 minutes before this and was now sleeping beside me or so I thought. As Sai came into the bedroom I heard a thump, thump, thump. It was Maclean’s tail hitting the floor, she was happy Sai was home. When he climbed in bed Hilary instantly woke up and clapped her hands because Daddy was home.

Oh, Love does funny things!

We got Hilary back in her bed around 1:15 am and Lilly got up at 3:30 am to pee. She still didn’t know Sai was home and I managed to get her back in her room without noticing Daddy in bed!!!

Just after 7 this morning Lilly came in our room asking to go pee again and still didn’t notice Daddy yet! While in the bathroom I asked if she could climb in my bed and keep my side warm. When she got to the bed she laughed and was so excited to see her Daddy!

Oh, Love does funny things!

A sound or the sight of someone you love can sure make you feel great! Even for a dog!

Do you get excited when your loved one comes home?

How do your children react when their mom/dad comes home after being away for a while?

Do you think animals can love a human?
