Marching along….

Well hello there!

Last time I blogged was January 6th, clearly I’m not cut out for this anymore. I can’t believe its March AND almost March Break!

It’s been a typical winter for me – very little running and lots of winter sports. I mean, can you blame me? I’ve been soaking up last minute opportunities to x-country ski, snowshoe, skate and downhill ski.

Yesterday after a busy day at work, I picked up the girls and took them skating at our local rink that opened up again due to a mega cold snap. We had the think mostly to ourselves.

Things have been open, shut down and then reopened here. Vaccinations have been rolling out but I’m low on the list so I’ll just wait and see when I get it. Hopefully by this summer.

I’ve kinda lost all motivation to run😳 which really sucks. I’ve packed my bags with all my running gear multiple times in the last few weeks and headed off to the office with the intention to run. But, I didn’t. I just didn’t bother. I even planned my lunch break or end of the day to run, but didn’t. I’m just not feeling it.

I’ve been doing little Zwifting but not as much as I was in January when I completed the Tour de Zwift. That was one of the hardest and most intense activity I’ve done in a long time. Often, after a ride, my legs would shake uncontrollably which was a weird sensation post ride. I never thought I would have done that amount of climbing on a ride. Feeling good about that accomplishment.

Well, that’s been my winter so far! With the time change next week and potentially warmer weather coming in a few weeks, I’m hoping to be running a bit more!

Anyone else struggling with running? Or one of your main activities?

Happy March!

2019 Running Stats!

I’m so far behind! It’s the middle of January and I’m still living in the past. Fingers cross this will be my last post about 2019.

I finally sat down and tallied up my running stats (and cycling, soccer games, yoga classes etc.) a little while ago but just posting about it now. It’s something I like to do every year and track it each month in a bullet journal. Yeah, yeah, I could just use my Garmin or Strava – which I do but I really like the visual of my bullet journal.

This is what my 2019 year looked like:

Running 431.30 km, Cycling: 609.79 km, 40 Soccer Games (injuries: 1), 18 Yoga classes, 8 days of skiing, 4 times skating with my daughters, 1 Gran Fondo and paced 1 race!

The other thing I was counting last year was books! I’m really not a big reader, I never really loved it until last year. I finally found a great app (some of you likely use it) called Goodreads and that’s what helped kick start my reading habit…oh and my calf strain injury in April.

My plan was to read 12 books: 1 per month. Which really isn’t a lot but to me, that was a lot of reading that I honestly didn’t think I’d achieve. However, I did. I actually finished 18 books! I think my favourite book was Daisy Jones which I wanted to give up on a few times but kept with it and loved it in the end.

2020

Well it’s going to look the same as last year: run, ride my bike, play soccer, be active with my kids, hike, swim, lay on the beach in PEI, complete another Gran Fondo, ski and snowshoe more, read more and lots of family adventures. I’m returning as an ambassador for Endurance Tap, Nuun Hydration and Tiux Compression Socks; all products I love and use religiously.

But for real….I’m aiming for 1000 km running, 1000 km cycling and 2020 km between all my activities (run, cycle, swim, soccer). Anything that I can count distance in, I’m aiming for a collective 2020 km.

Oh and last, a big goal for me will be to NOT fall off my bike as I recently got new cycling shoes that clip in. It’s a whole knew cycling world!

This should be fun!

Running, What Running

Confession – I don’t remember the last time I ran outside. I literally, had to look it up on Garmin Connect just. It was February 10th.

So, its only been two weeks since my last run, that doesn’t seem too bad. It was a shitty run, that’s why I don’t care to remember it. Before the 10th, I ran with Carmacks on the 3rd. Though not an awesome run, it was better than my last run, as I ran with him.

We’ve been skiing a little bit, skating this past weekend on a local outdoor rink and I’ve had a few soccer games here and there.

And yes, I count soccer towards my running mileage because I AM RUNNING. Sprint, recover, sprint, recover, jog, walk, sprint, recovery over and over again for 60 minutes. I’ve been getting between 5.3 km and 6 km during one-60 minute soccer game.

Even though I’m not running outside right now, I love playing soccer, skiing and skating with my kids. I’d much rather do an activity with my family, then on my own. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good solo run or soccer game where I can get lost for an hour.

This time last year I had already racked up some big mileage on my bike….not this year and that’s okay too.

I have no spring races planned and I have no clue why I haven’t registered or sorted out a training plan yet. I guess it will happen when it happens.

What winter activities are you loving right now?

What’s your biggest motivation right now?

Ever forget when you last ran?

March Mileage

March brought more variety of activities into my training for a half marathon while slowly increasing my weekly running mileage.

We managed to get up skiing a few times – mainly on March Break and skated a number of times with both girls learning how to skate on their own! I really wasn’t sure how running was going to go with increasing my mileage and still working through this hip/oblique injury – but I’m still moving forward.

March:

  • 105 km cycling (met my goal) on my indoor trainer
  • 63 km running (met my goal)
  • 4 days of skiing with my girls (loved it)
  • 3 days (hours) skating with my girls (love it also)
  • 1 Yoga class
  • 1 Snowshoe (that I forgot to write on the picture).

March was a great month for activity!
