2019 Running Stats!

I’m so far behind! It’s the middle of January and I’m still living in the past. Fingers cross this will be my last post about 2019.

I finally sat down and tallied up my running stats (and cycling, soccer games, yoga classes etc.) a little while ago but just posting about it now. It’s something I like to do every year and track it each month in a bullet journal. Yeah, yeah, I could just use my Garmin or Strava – which I do but I really like the visual of my bullet journal.

This is what my 2019 year looked like:

Running 431.30 km, Cycling: 609.79 km, 40 Soccer Games (injuries: 1), 18 Yoga classes, 8 days of skiing, 4 times skating with my daughters, 1 Gran Fondo and paced 1 race!

The other thing I was counting last year was books! I’m really not a big reader, I never really loved it until last year. I finally found a great app (some of you likely use it) called Goodreads and that’s what helped kick start my reading habit…oh and my calf strain injury in April.

My plan was to read 12 books: 1 per month. Which really isn’t a lot but to me, that was a lot of reading that I honestly didn’t think I’d achieve. However, I did. I actually finished 18 books! I think my favourite book was Daisy Jones which I wanted to give up on a few times but kept with it and loved it in the end.

2020

Well it’s going to look the same as last year: run, ride my bike, play soccer, be active with my kids, hike, swim, lay on the beach in PEI, complete another Gran Fondo, ski and snowshoe more, read more and lots of family adventures. I’m returning as an ambassador for Endurance Tap, Nuun Hydration and Tiux Compression Socks; all products I love and use religiously.

But for real….I’m aiming for 1000 km running, 1000 km cycling and 2020 km between all my activities (run, cycle, swim, soccer). Anything that I can count distance in, I’m aiming for a collective 2020 km.

Oh and last, a big goal for me will be to NOT fall off my bike as I recently got new cycling shoes that clip in. It’s a whole knew cycling world!

This should be fun!

Running, What Running

Confession – I don’t remember the last time I ran outside. I literally, had to look it up on Garmin Connect just. It was February 10th.

So, its only been two weeks since my last run, that doesn’t seem too bad. It was a shitty run, that’s why I don’t care to remember it. Before the 10th, I ran with Carmacks on the 3rd. Though not an awesome run, it was better than my last run, as I ran with him.

We’ve been skiing a little bit, skating this past weekend on a local outdoor rink and I’ve had a few soccer games here and there.

And yes, I count soccer towards my running mileage because I AM RUNNING. Sprint, recover, sprint, recover, jog, walk, sprint, recovery over and over again for 60 minutes. I’ve been getting between 5.3 km and 6 km during one-60 minute soccer game.

Even though I’m not running outside right now, I love playing soccer, skiing and skating with my kids. I’d much rather do an activity with my family, then on my own. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good solo run or soccer game where I can get lost for an hour.

This time last year I had already racked up some big mileage on my bike….not this year and that’s okay too.

I have no spring races planned and I have no clue why I haven’t registered or sorted out a training plan yet. I guess it will happen when it happens.

What winter activities are you loving right now?

What’s your biggest motivation right now?

Ever forget when you last ran?

March Mileage

March brought more variety of activities into my training for a half marathon while slowly increasing my weekly running mileage.

We managed to get up skiing a few times – mainly on March Break and skated a number of times with both girls learning how to skate on their own! I really wasn’t sure how running was going to go with increasing my mileage and still working through this hip/oblique injury – but I’m still moving forward.

March:

  • 105 km cycling (met my goal) on my indoor trainer
  • 63 km running (met my goal)
  • 4 days of skiing with my girls (loved it)
  • 3 days (hours) skating with my girls (love it also)
  • 1 Yoga class
  • 1 Snowshoe (that I forgot to write on the picture).

March was a great month for activity!

This was my first 10k since November and it went rather well. I decided not to take my dog out and just see how I could make out with the distance. I have some minor pain in my obliques but seemed to work it out over a few days. Happy to say that my half marathon training has begun.

March 12th – 18th:

Keeping in mind this is week is March break (spring break) for my kids and I was on vacation with them. We stayed home and didn’t stop all week. My body is completely exhausted and I really should have taken Monday (today) off just to recover.

IMG_20180318_153811_970[1]

  • Monday: Skiing with my daugther’s all day.
  • Tuesday: Skating with my daugther’s. Ran 5k at the beginning of a snow storm.
  • Wednesday: Skating again with my daughters.
  • Thursday: Cross training: indoor Cycling – 24.46km
  • Friday: Skiing all afternoon/evening with my daugther’s.
  • Saturday: Skating AGAIN!!!!!!! And 5k with Carmacks.
  • Sunday: Skiing one last time on the most beautiful day of the year!!!!

It was a pretty great March break for our girls. We also went shopping with gift cards and hit up the library twice.

IMG_20180318_153811_969[1]

Running with Carmacks this winter has been lots of fun. He sure is making me run WAY faster then I would on my own….by about 20-30 seconds. I guess those will be my tempo/speed work days! As I mentioned above, I’m completed exhausted! My body is tired and I feel like I could sleep for a full 24 hours to recover. A rest day can’t come soon enough!

Half Marathon Training:

Early last week I had a bit of an eye opener! I realised the I’m basically in my half marathon training without having a training plan or actually realising that I should be “training” for a half marathon.

I’m running the Bluenose Half Marathon with two girl friends, our husbands use to work together a few years back and we became friends. It’s a girls weekend and I convinced them to run their first half marathon!!! Anyway, I freaked out a bit and then sat down and decided on Hal Higdon Intermediate training plan – which I’ve done before. I’m going to modify it as I need to and don’t plan to run 5 days a week as it’s planned out.

Picture_20180318_204533642[1]

My body is not ready for 5 days of running…at the most 3 days of running a week, plus yoga, cycling and lately a tone of skiing and skating! I’ll be writing more about my training plan and how training is going. I’ll also be going back to my “What Was Planned vs What Really Happened” recaps. Because, the reality of a full-time-working-mother-runner-who’s-husband-works-shift-work running schedule doesn’t always go as planned. Just being honest!  Let’s do this!

How was your week?

Did you celebrate St. Paddy’s Day?

Jan 29th – Feb 4th Wrap Up

You’d hardly know it’s winter in Nova Scotia today as it’s raining and we’ve lots all the snow that fell last week! Last week’s workouts were a but of everything but no running!

Wrap Up

Monday Jan 29th:  Rest Day.

Tuesday:  20k Cycling – indoor trainer. The girls snuck in a 15 minute snowshoe at the end of the day while I walked Carmacks.

IMG_20180131_083339_224[1].jpg

Wednesday: 30 minutes of Snowshoeing! Since we had a dump of snow, I walked Carmacks first thing in my snowshoes for 10 minutes. I also got out during my lunch break for 20 minutes.

IMG_20180131_140433_605[1]

Thursday (FEB): Skiing!!! It was an in-service day for my daughters and I had booked the day off work. We spent the whole morning skiing and it was awesome!

Picture_20180205_085920674[1].jpg

Friday 2nd: I took Friday as a rest day but still did my PT exercises and plank.

Saturday 3rd:  Skating. We’ve been battling head colds all week and my oldest wasn’t feeling great so we skipped morning basketball to sleep in. The girls really want to skate so I took them skating at a local arena. They had a blast!

As mentioned, I started my plank challenge – plank every day in February. I usually do this before bed, mainly because I’ve forgotten about it during the day time….but I’m getting it done!

IMG_20180203_220942_346[1]

Sunday 4th: I desperately wanted to run outside today but the stars did not align. I thought about getting on the treadmill but just didn’t have the energy after getting the girls to bed (I usually workout at night).

After getting the girls to bed I decided I’d do an hour of yoga but got distracted by my bicycle puzzle that was under the couch. Apparently, I just needed something to be distracted by and got so into it that I finished it!

IMG_20180204_205135_128[1].jpg

I got in 30 minutes of yoga and some PT exercises! It’s the puzzle cool, worth it!

How was your week?

Did you take in the Superbowl? (I didn’t, shhh!)

January Mileage

With February ticking away quickly, I finally got together my January mileage. Though it has few kilometres of running, it sure has a lot of other winter activities that I love!

January Mileage

IMG_20180202_163242_459[1]

January was a month of simple goals. My main focus is to get my hip/obliques stronger so I can get running A LOT more! You know, train for an upcoming half that I have yet to register for. Also, I want to get back to soccer (I’m crazy, yeah I know) but that will happen when it happens.

January saw a lot of cycling, a little running and lots of winter fun. I haven’t cross-country skied in a few years so it was great to get out and do that; fingers crossed I can get out again this month! The girls are loving skating and wanting to go more and more.

Though there was little running, I got in a lot of cross training and no one every said cross training is a bad thing!

How was your January mileage?

Are you all about running or changing it up in the “off season”?

The Olympics start Friday!!! What are you looking forward to the most?

Jan 22nd – 28th Weekly Wrap Up

Last week was what I would say a low and lazy week. I was feeling under the weather for most of it and by the end of the week came down with a nasty head cold. You know, weekends are make for fun…not head colds and sick!

Jan 22nd – 28th

I did a few work outs last week but nothing big. It went a little like this:

Monday Jan 22nd: Nothing. But I sure got a lot of sleep that night.

Tuesday: Nothing again. However, my husband and I went to the Banff Film Festival in Wolfville which was awesome! It was a series of films from 4 – 30 minutes in length, everything from climbing to badass women slack liners and mountain bikers, to a 90 female skater and major expeditions on glaciers.

IMG_20180123_183735_998[1]

Wednesday: Nothing, other then PT exercises and walking our dog.

Thursday: 5km Treadmill Run + PT exercises. Treadmill run was nice and easy though it felt like I haven’t run in ages …. which I haven’t. It was a wear your Tiux compression socks kind of night! {Check out my discount page here}

IMG_20180125_210139_221[1]

Friday: Physiotherapy appointment  which went well and more sleep that night. Felt horribly sick that night.

Saturday: Walked the dog. Took the girls to their basketball jamboree and yes, more sleep.

Sunday: Skating and walked the dog. Light skating with Hilary while Lilly was at a birthday party. Again, more sleep.

IMG_20180128_152556_412[1]

Though this week was pretty low and lazy, I needed it. I’m not training for anything and my body just needed to rest a lot this week. I’ve been just trying to feel better so rest, sleep, hydration and good food…okay, maybe some bad food in there too (let’s be honest)

It’s another week and we’re expecting a snow storm tonight and tomorrow! Woohoo! Yup, I love snow and hoping to get out our snow shoes!!!

How was your week?

Ever lay low for a whole week THEN get super sick?

What’s one thing you are looking forward to this week?
