January & February Goals

First off, today is #BellLetsTalk Day in Canada. This means that every time you text, share on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat), long distance phone calls on mobile and home phones, Bell will donate 5¢ towards Mental Health initiatives in Canada. ANYONE can use the #bellletstalk hashtag – PLEASE do today. Join the conversation!

I’ll likely be tweeting, texting, sharing more on social media today because mental health is important to me. With friends and family members who live with depression, anxiety etc., it’s one thing I can do to help. Have the conversation, not just today but every day.

Back to my original post for today.

January Goals

Though I set my January Goals rather late, they were simple goals for me to focus on. Simple and easy goals is were it’s at for me this year. Maybe later on I’ll set some other goals but I’m taking it month at a time.

  1. Stay Active. I feel like I accomplished this. I ran, downhill skied, cross country skied, skated, cycled and went to yoga. Most of it was done with my daughters. Oh and we walked our dog A LOT!
  2. Go to Physio (sort out hip/obliques) – Yup, weekly PT appointments are my thing now. Seeing some progress but still in some pain with my obliques.
  3. Enjoy time with family. – Yes! We had a busy month from skiing, learning how to skates again, read a lot of books, watched some movies and Netflix (got the girls hooked on the old Full House), we even got sick together.

February Goals

February Goals

February will be about challenging myself a little bit. I want to plank every day with no time commitment. I’ll continue with my physio and strengthening my hip/obliques. I want to cycle 100km since I’m not running high mileage and loving being on my bike for 45-60 minutes.

I also want to ski as much as we can and would love to take my girls night skiing but all the stars have to align for that one! And the Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to watch Canada (and other countries) at the Winter Olympics. I think one of the things I like the most about the Olympics is being able to expose my children to multiple sports. They can watch the athletes compete individually and as part of a team.

Did you reach any goals in January?

Are you going to watch the Olympics?

Do you have any goals planned for February?

Don’t forget to text, tweet, share with the hashtag #bellletstalk today!

Pickleball, Valentine’s and Olympics!

Yup, that was the most random title for a blog post – I wonder if I’ll get “Freshly Pressed” for that one 😉

It’s been a fun few days between work and home with the girls. I managed to play Pickle Ball the other day at work – yeah, I know… lucky us! We played for about 45 minutes then met all day – pretty good way to start a meeting, eh!

Pickle Ball is completely new to me but apparently gaining popularity among senior’s groups! I grew up playing badminton and love the sport so Pickle Ball was pretty awesome! You have a paddle and waffle ball (the colour of a pickle) and play on a badminton court. You can use normal badminton nets or these smaller indoor tennis tents!

We celebrated Valentine’s Day. Watched a bunch of Olympics and played in the snow…again!

Olympics and Valentines Day Girls

The girls are pretty into that hockey game (Can. vs. Fin).

Running these days….I feel like I am the Queen of procrastination this week in regards to my running. It was kinda taking a back seat to life, work and coming down with a cold. I’ve played soccer, played in the snow, skated and managed a few lousy runs. It took me a lot of convincing Saturday night to get my run in.

I have no races coming up and I think that’s why my motivation is lacking to run right now. I’m thinking a virtual run is needed in the next 4 weeks or I’m just going to have to set some goals to get some good running in.

Me, not overly impressed about going for a run. It happens.

What did you do this weekend?

Anyone loving the Olympics or is it starting to get old? (I’m loving it!)

Have you ever played or heard of Pickle Ball ?

Olympic Fever!

Yeah, I’m kind of excited for the Winter Olympics! Could you image being an Olympic athlete right now, in Sochi…walking the walk in the opening ceremonies, preparing mentally for their competitions and don’t forget they can be social while going to the bathroom! Have you seen the pictures? Does that strike you as odd?

Vancouver 2010 Olympic Mitts

We’re pretty pumped here for the Olympics to begin; we have had a countdown going on, watched two events yesterday in the boardroom and we are all wore RED in the office today! GO CANADA GO!

Family Spirit:

In my house we’ll be cheering for Canada and Great Britain. Though my husband because a Canadian citizen just 2 months ago, I’m pretty sure he’ll still be cheering on GB. The true test will come when it’s CAN vs GB – who will he cheer for?

Office Spirit: We had a meeting this afternoon about the Canadian Sport for Life Conference that most of our office went to but not me 😦 Lots of red to eat, red to drink, wearing red and talking….sport! Works for me!

Kids and Olympics:

This morning, I tried telling Lilly that the Olympics were starting today but she’s too little to remember watching the 2012 Summer Olympics. She LOVED watching the cycling and swimmers and often ask to watch both. When she was born and while we were in the hospital with her for a full week, we all got to watch the World Cup Soccer together (2010). She’s had a lot of sport watching behind her and hopefully a lot of sport playing ahead of her 😉

If you could participate in one Winter Olympic Sport, what would it be?

Are you watching the Opening Ceremonies today?

Do your children like to watch the Olympics?
